Job summary

Koch Finishing Systems in Caledonia, MI, near Grand Rapids, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team building custom automation and capital equipment. You will design, analyze, and assemble systems for plating, anodizing, and material handling, collaborating with controls and fabrication teams to deliver turnkey solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience with custom automated machinery/capital equipment.
• Experience applying structural/mechanical analysis and material selection.

Responsibilities

• Engineer custom automated capital equipment including plating/anodizing lines and material handling systems.
• Perform engineering calculations (loads, tank/vessel design, corrosion resistance) to support design decisions.
• Translate customer requirements into functional, manufacturable equipment.
• Collaborate with controls, project managers, and fabrication teams for integrated systems.
• Own mechanical scope from concept to fabrication, installation and commissioning; troubleshoot on site.
• Produce 3D models and production drawings (SolidWorks/Inventor or similar).
• Evaluate customer requirements, budgets, and timelines to develop solutions.
• Participate in customer design reviews and represent the technical solution.
• Support project scheduling and execution with the PM team.
