Job summary

Actalent is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to design custom automated machinery from concept to release. You will create 3D models, drawings, and BOMs, and release designs through ERP/PDM systems while supporting production, purchasing, and customers.

The role emphasizes manufacturability, safety, and cross-functional teamwork with customers and suppliers to refine requirements and resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years of machine design experience.
• Proven experience designing automated machinery, tooling, or industrial equipment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD for 3D and 2D design.
• Ability to create complete manufacturing drawing packages with detailed part/assembly drawings.
• Ability to develop and manage accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Experience with ERP and PDM systems to release and control designs.
• Strong communication across manufacturing, assembly, purchasing, quality, and sales.
• Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles applied to machine design.
• Hands-on 3D design and machine layout experience.
• Experience with sheet metal and tooling design for industrial applications.

Responsibilities

• Design custom automated machinery, tooling, press equipment, and related industrial equipment from concept through release.
• Create accurate 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using CAD tools.
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all designed equipment.
• Process engineering changes and revisions, keeping documentation current.
• Release designs through ERP and PDM systems to support internal processes.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, purchasing, quality, and sales with technical guidance.
• Interact with customers to define requirements and ensure designs meet needs.
• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues and optimize components.
• Maintain project documentation including design files and manuals.
• Ensure designs consider manufacturability, serviceability, safety, and performance.
