Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in New Jersey to support design, coordination, and construction administration of mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial and institutional facilities.

The role involves evaluating equipment using fan and pump curves, performing psychrometric calculations for HVAC, and developing ductwork and piping diagrams while coordinating controls interfaces with controls engineers. PE-licensed candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Experience designing mechanical systems for commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Experience with engineering consulting firms is preferred.

Job description

HDR is an employee-owned company that values diversity and inclusion. The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) in New Jersey seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support design, coordination, and construction administration of mechanical and plumbing systems.

Primary Duties
  • Support project phases from feasibility to close-out.
  • Coordinate workload to meet deadlines.
  • Participate in site work sessions with stakeholders.
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications.
  • Select equipment using fan and pump curves.
  • Perform psychrometric calculations for HVAC.
  • Develop sections, elevations, and flow diagrams for ductwork and piping.
  • Coordinate HVAC and plumbing controls with controls engineers.
  • Review mechanical documents for conflicts with all disciplines.
  • Perform field verification of existing conditions.
  • Provide construction administration support by reviewing submittals and answering RFIs.
  • Visit project sites to monitor construction and prepare field observation reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing large-scale healthcare, laboratory, or data center facilities.
  • Proficiency in Revit and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with load calculation, energy modeling, and equipment selection software.
  • Local residency preferred.
  • Previous experience with an A/E/C firm.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Prior experience in mechanical system design for commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar, and manufacturer selection software.
  • Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm.
