Job summary

KPFF Special Projects Division in Seattle or Tacoma seeks a Mechanical Engineer with 6+ years of experience to work across civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines.

You will collaborate with project teams, contribute to machine design, dynamic-load analysis, FEA, hydraulic systems, and control design while supporting design-for-fatigue and safety. Hybrid work and competitive compensation are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • PE Registration preferred or able to obtain.
  • Experience in project engineering and project management.
  • Design for dynamic loads and fatigue with FEA knowledge.
  • SolidWorks proficiency with parts modeling, assemblies and drawings.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a variety of projects in Seattle/Tacoma offices.
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients throughout development.
  • Perform machine design, hydraulic power systems and control design.
  • Analyze stresses and dynamic loads, contributing to safe, reliable designs.

Job Description
Engineering - Mechanical 6+ Yrs. Exp. (Special Projects – Seattle/Tacoma)

KPFF Special Projects Group is currently seeking exceptional individuals with 6+ years of experience to apply for the position of Mechanical Engineer in either our Seattle or Tacoma offices.

KPFF's Special Projects Seattle and Tacoma offices are part of a dynamic 150+ person group that provides civil engineering and planning, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and machine design, and project management. We provide these services on a wide range of project types through all stages of development.

Typical Project Types Include
  • Moveable vehicle and pedestrian bridges and other heavy moveable structures
  • Doors for aircraft hangars and other large buildings
  • Container terminal infrastructure design
  • Marina design
  • Ports, harbors, shipyards and other industrial waterfront projects
  • Fluid power design
  • Fuel piping systems
  • Bulk material handling systems
  • Rail Locomotive Maintenance Facility Infrastructure
  • Fisheries Engineering
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE Registration
  • Project Engineering and Project Management
  • Design of weldments and structures for dynamic loads
  • Stress analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Machine Design, including shafts, bearings, gears and other machine components.
  • Design for fatigue
  • Kinematic and dynamic analysis of machines and systems
  • Hydraulic power systems.
  • Electric motors, electronic drives, and controls.
  • Industrial process piping and pumps.
  • Bulk Material Handling and storage
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks including parts modeling, assembly creation, and drawing production.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project team members and clients on a variety of projects.
  • Detail oriented and desire for continued learning.
  • Clear communication and writing skills.
Physical Demands And Work Environment
  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing indoor/outdoor field observations, which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders and navigating uneven terrain.

Compensation

The total compensation for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected total compensation range for a qualified candidate is $100,000 - $140,000 including performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. During the interview process, we'll provide detailed information and address any questions you may have about the overall compensation package and benefits.
