Job summary

Lam Research in Tualatin, Oregon, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and define cutting‑edge electro‑mechanical systems for WETS products. You will conduct feasibility studies, CAD modeling, testing, and lead small to medium projects, contributing to productization from concept to production.

You will work with cross‑functional teams, perform FEA and GD&T, and develop technical specifications, risk analyses, and validation plans. Strong communication and mentorship are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 8+ years experience, or Master’s with 6+ years.
  • Strong communication and technical presentation skills.
  • Experience leading projects and managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the full life cycle of mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems from concept to productization.
  • Design components using metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics and advanced coatings.
  • Perform FEA, thermal, stress, vibrations, and GD&T analyses and ensure manufacturability.
  • Develop feasibility studies, test plans, and validation for design performance.
  • Provide deliverables including FMEA, specifications, risk analysis and test plans.

The WETS organization develops liquid‑based process equipment supporting both wafer and panel‑level applications, with strong emphasis on new product introduction (NPI), technology differentiation, and manufacturing scalability. Our teams work closely across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, systems, and process engineering- partnering globally to bring complex, high‑performance tools from concept through production while meeting aggressive cost, schedule, and quality targets.The impact you’ll makeAs a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging. In this role, you will directly contribute to continuous improvement for existing WETS products and lead small to medium projects.What you’ll doSupport the full life cycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization including conceptualization, designing, CAD modeling, development, and test/validation.Designs components using variety of metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coatings.Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI, Lam standards, and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).Conduct detailed analysis including structural, finite element analysis (FEA), thermal, heat transfer, stress, vibrations, fluid and gas flow dynamics, and manufacturability to properly specify designs.Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.Prepare high-quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to a diverse audience in design reviews.Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure solutions can be manufactured with high-quality, cost-optimized, and to requirements.Provide key deliverables including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), technical specifications, risk analysis, test specifications, and design review presentations.Provide technical guidance and mentoring to more junior engineersWho we’re looking forMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 8+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 6+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience.Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and technical presentation skills.Highly proficient in 3D CAD tools such as CREO, Siemens NX, ProE, SolidWorks, and others.Hands-on experimental and design background coupled with solid engineering skills.Preferred qualificationsExperience in Semiconductor industry is a plus.Experience in leading projects, or problem solving while managing time and multiple priorities.Our commitmentWe believe it is important for every person to feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
