NuScale Power, LLC is seeking an experienced engineer to design and analyze NSSS piping systems in accordance with ASME BPVC III and regulatory requirements. The role participates in the NSSS design organization, developing design parameters for a modular ALWR NSSS, with QA per NQA-1 and NRC guidelines.

The position requires hands-on analysis using AutoPIPE/ANSYS, collaboration with NX CAD tasks, and travel for business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) with PE preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant piping design/stress experience.
  • Experience with ASME BPVC Section III NB/NC/ND-3600 requirements.
  • Experience with ANSYS and Bentley AutoPIPE.
  • Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.

Job description

NOTE: This is a full-time position available for remote work within the contiguous United States if living beyond a 30-mile radius of a physical NuScale office. Otherwise, work must be performed in-office 4 days/week. Regardless of work location, occasional travel may be required for business needs.

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Piping and Integration, this position performs design and analysis of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) pipe systems in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. This position is part of the NSSS design engineering organization that generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. All work within the NSSS design organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs piping design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping systems using the Bentley AutoPIPE computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB, NC, ND-3600, respectively.
  • Performs piping design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III Class 1, 2, and 3 piping components using the ANSYS computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB-3200 (preferred).
  • Performs pipe support design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III NF supports using hand calculations or ANSYS computer program.
  • Performs static and dynamic analysis including response spectrum and time history analysis to calculate stresses due to deadweight, thermal expansion, thermal gradients, seismic events, and fluid transients.
  • Prepare and review engineering specifications, drawings, CAD models, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of piping components associated with NSSS systems. The development of Drawings and CAD models is based on collaboration with drafters and requires the engineer to reviews models that have been developed in Siemens NX.
  • Offers design solutions (piping re-route, reconfiguration of supports, etc.) in order to satisfy piping stress criteria with assistance from subject matter experts.
  • Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas.
  • Interprets scope and project requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
  • Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university. A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of full-time, relevant professional experience. Must have demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Experience with design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III piping systems in accordance with the requirements of NB, NC, or ND-3600.
    • Experience with the Bentley AutoPIPE computer code is desirable (similar code is acceptable).
    • Experience with design and stress analysis of ASME BPVC Section III piping components using ANSYS computer program in accordance with the requirements of NB-3200 (preferred).
    • Experience with ASME Section III NF (preferred).
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits:

The target pay range for this position is $115,710 - $139,650 annually.The full pay range is $102,000 - $163,000 annually.
