Job summary

NuScale Power is seeking a thermal-hydraulic engineer to analyze NSSS system design and transient performance. You will use RELAP, ANSYS, and GOTHIC tools, perform evaluations, and prepare technical reports for cross-disciplinary engineering teams.

The role requires 2+ years of experience, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to travel as needed. A B.S. in engineering is required, with EIT preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering required; EIT preferred.
  • 2+ years of full-time engineering experience as a thermal-hydraulic engineer.
  • Experience with transient analyses and flow-induced vibration.
  • Familiarity with RELAP, ANSYS, GOTHIC and office software.
  • Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.

Responsibilities

  • Use thermal-hydraulic software and tools to analyze NSSS system design and performance.
  • Perform engineering evaluations per NuScale procedures using therm hydraulics and structural mechanics fundamentals.
  • Prepare, check, and review calculations and reports on flow-induced vibration.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and communicate findings clearly in writing and orally.
  • Travel nationally and locally as required for business needs.

Job description

NOTE: This position may be available for remote work within the contiguous United States if beyond a 30 mile radius of a physical NuScale office, with travel as required for business needs.

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Systems Analysis, the person in this role applies technical knowledge, insight, reasoning, and decision making to perform analyses of the fluid systems within the NuScale Power Plant nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) to support advancement of the design. They will utilize a strong analytical background in performing transient analyses in collaboration with the rest of the team.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Uses thermal-hydraulic software and engineering tools to perform analyses on the design and performance of NSSS systems.
  • Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with NuScale company procedures, by applying sound engineering thermal hydraulics and structural mechanics fundamentals, including familiarity with standard system analysis software (e.g. RELAP, ANSYS, GOTHIC).
  • Prepare, check, and review calculations and reports in the field of flow-induced vibration.
  • Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills, Qualifications And Abilities
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical) is required. A registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of full time engineering experience as a thermal-hydraulic engineer is required. Additional experience in the following areas is desired:
    • Analysis of system performance and transient operations, including water hammer, high energy line break, steam generator heat transfer, compartment heating/pressurization
    • Use of software: RELAP, ANSYS (Mechanical and CFD), GOTHIC, plus normal office software
    • Analysis of components for flow induced vibration mechanisms, as well as experience with vibration testing and data analysis
    • Computer programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab)
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay And Benefits

The target pay range for this position is $87,107 - $105,129 annually. The full pay range is $78,096 - $122,149 annually.
