Job summary

NuScale Power, LLC is seeking a Mechanical/Electrical Engineer 3 to join the NSSS Appurtenance team. You will prepare, check and review reports, specifications, drawings, calculations and other design deliverables for NSSS mechanical components used in the NuScale Power Module.

You will work with system engineers and other design disciplines to resolve complex challenges, support proof‑of‑concept and qualification testing, and assist licensing efforts for domestic and international regulatory

Qualifications

Job description

NOTE: FOR THOSE LIVING WITHIN A 30-MILE RADIUS OF A CURRENT NUSCALE OFFICE LOCATION, AN ONSITE PRESENCE OF 4 DAYS PER WEEK WILL BE REQUIRED. OTHERWISE, IF GREATER THAN A 30-MILE RADIUS, BUT WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITES STATES, THIS POSITION MAY BE AVAILABLE FOR REMOTE WORK WITH TRAVEL AS REQUIRED FOR BUSINESS NEEDS.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Appurtenance team designs ASME BPVC Section III components, appurtenances, and other mechanical and/or electrical interface components critical to the NuScale Power Module (NPM). Reporting to the Manager, NSSS Appurtenance Design, the Mechanical/Electrical Engineer 3 prepares, checks, and reviews reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, Scopes of Work, and other design and ASME Code related deliverables. The role partners closely with multi‑discipline teams to resolve complex design challenges, proposes innovative solutions using independent judgment, and plans and executes work aligned to project scope. The engineer supports proof‑of‑concept and qualification testing and collaborates with Licensing on domestic and international regulatory efforts to develop and maintain licensing scope.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and scopes of work necessary to design NSSS mechanical components including valves, Control rod drive mechanisms, pressurizer heaters, electrical penetration assemblies, instrument penetration assemblies, and Passive Autocatalytic Recombiner (PAR).
  • Possesses a working knowledge of NSSS Systems and Components and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with System engineers and interfacing component design engineers to establish mechanical electrical and process interface requirements for NSSS mechanical components
  • Work closely with contract managers and project managers to provide technical oversight of Vendor scopes including review of proposals, deliverables and support of meetings and key witness points.
  • Supports test program sponsors in proof‑of‑concept and component qualification testing.
  • Collaborates with NuScale Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts.
  • Interacts with co‑workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi‑disciplinary teams.

  • Possesses strong written and oral communication skills.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. A PE license in Mechanical Engineering is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of full‑time, relevant professional experience is required. Candidates must have good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detail. Must have solid technical writing skills, exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage projects with multiple work phases. Specific experience in the following areas is highly desired:
    • Possess a working knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards and 10CFR 50
    • Possess knowledge or experience with IEEE 323, 344, 317, 383, 384, and 741
    • Nuclear Utility or plant design experience and knowledge
    • NSSS Component Design, Inspection & Testing particularly in electrical interface components such as Electrical Penetration Assemblies, Instrument Seal Assemblies, Pressurizer Heater Bundles, etc
    • Resolving complex & multidisciplinary design issues
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits:

The target pay range for this position is $108,908 - $131,441 annually. The full pay range is $97,642 - $152,722 annually.
