Job summary

KPFF Special Projects Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 3–6 years of experience for Seattle or Tacoma offices. The role emphasizes mechanical design, analysis and collaboration on a variety of heavy civil and waterfront projects.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and an EIT, with proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD/Revit. Strong communication and team-work are essential in our dynamic, client-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • EIT is required.
  • Exposure to project engineering and project management is preferred.
  • Understanding core mechanical concepts: machine design, statics, dynamics, kinematics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials.
  • Familiarity with force analysis, free-body diagrams, and shear/bending/moment diagrams.
  • Knowledge of stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Familiarity with design of weldments and bearings/pins.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic power systems, electric motors, drives and controls.
  • Experience with industrial process piping and pumps; bulk materials handling and storage.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to collaborate with project teams and clients; detail-oriented and communicative.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project team members and clients across Seattle/Tacoma projects.
  • Contribute to mechanical design, analysis and documentation for heavy civil and waterfront infrastructure.
  • Support project management activities and design reviews.

KPFF's Special ProjectsSeattleand Tacomaoffices arepartof adynamic150+person group that providescivil engineering and planning, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and machine design,andproject management. We provide these services on a wide range of project typesthroughall stages of development.

Typical project types include:

  • Moveable vehicle and pedestrian bridges and other heavy moveable structures
  • Doors foraircrafthangars and other large buildings
  • Ports, harbors,shipyardsand other industrial waterfront projects
  • Rail Locomotive Maintenance Facility Infrastructure

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Occasionallymay berequiredto lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing indoor/outdoor field observations, which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders and navigating uneven terrain.
Qualifications

Our ideal candidates would have:

  • Bachelorof Sciencein Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT isrequired.
  • Exposure toproject engineering and project management.
  • Understanding ofcore mechanical engineering concepts,including machine design principles, statics, dynamics, kinematics, fluid mechanics, and strength of materials.

  • Familiarity with Bulk Materials Handling and Storage.
  • Proficiencyin SolidWorks including parts modeling, assembly creation, and drawing production.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project team members and clients on a variety of projects.
  • Detailoriented anddesirefor continued learning.
  • Clear communication and writing skills.

Compensation:

The total compensation for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected total compensation range for a qualified candidate is $90,000 - $110,000 including performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. During the interview process, we'll provide detailed information and address any questions you may have about the overall compensation package and benefits.
