Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a mechanical engineer to research, plan, design, and develop systems for CVN 78 class carriers. You will apply engineering research to planning, design, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems, ensuring compliance with governing specifications.

The role involves supporting reactor plant fluid systems, providing engineering support on construction and at-sea activities, and communicating across cross-functional teams with NAVSEA/NNL and shipyards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 0–5+ years depending on degree level.
  • U.S. citizenship required and strong written/oral communication skills.
  • Preferred: Teamcenter® and NX product modeling experience.
  • Preferred: reactor plant fluid system experience and NAVSEA/NNL/Shipyards exposure.
  • Travel up to 10% and ability to visit shipboard radiological areas.

Responsibilities

  • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products and systems.
  • Apply research to planning, design, development and testing of mechanical systems and controls.
  • Support construction, testing, maintenance, overhaul and modernization of CVN 78 Class aircraft carriers.
  • Support reactor plant fluid system piping design and related drawings.
  • Approve 3-D product models and system fabrication drawings.
  • Perform engineering evaluations and calculations to resolve ship construction and vendor problems.
  • Develop reactor plant fluid system design improvements.
  • Write technical letters to Naval Nuclear Laboratory and Naval Sea Systems Command.
  • Provide engineering support for aircraft carriers under construction and at sea.
  • Communicate with Structures, Electrical, Components, and Propulsion Plant Monitoring and Control teams.

Job description

  • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products and systems

  • Support construction, testing, maintenance, overhaul and modernization of CVN 78 Class aircraft carriers
  • Support reactor plant fluid system piping design
  • Apply governing specifications
  • Approve 3-D product models and system fabrication drawings
  • Perform engineering evaluations and calculations to resolve ship construction and vendor problems
  • Develop reactor plant fluid system design improvements
  • Write technical letters to Naval Nuclear Laboratory and Naval Sea Systems Command

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Preferred: experience using Teamcenter® and the NX product model
  • Preferred: reactor plant fluid system experience
  • Preferred: experience working with NAVSEA, NNL and the Shipyards
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to work on shipboard visits, potentially involving access to radiological areas
