Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 1 year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and ability to model moderately complex parts.
  • Excellent academic record (GPA ≥ 3.0).
  • Experience using SolidWorks and OnShape is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin products.
  • Model complex parts as an expert CAD user.
  • Collaborate in design reviews and provide feedback on mechanical designs.
  • Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify requirements.
  • Estimate tooling, part cost and design time for basic designs.
  • Communicate with vendors producing custom mechanical parts.
  • Specify test plans to validate systems.
  • Apply knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, and machining processes.

Overview

We are seeking a full-timeMechanical Engineer 2 on our Fitness Product Team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex mechanical solutions, testing and validating, completing technology explorations and/or delivering to mass production within Garmin's Fitness category of products.

Essential Functions
  • Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin products
  • Model complex parts as an expert CAD user
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designs
  • Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements
  • Make estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs
  • Communicate effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required
  • Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems
  • Possess knowledge of injection modeling, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND1 year relevant experienceORan equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of relevant engineering tools
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience with electro-mechanical design
  • Previous work experience in design, particularly for consumer products
  • Mechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experience
  • Experience using SolidWorks and/or OnShape CAD software
