You will design mechanical and electromechanical subsystems, structures, thermal management, and motion hardware, and take your designs from concept through fabrication, assembly, and test. You will work directly with the founding team on a novel machine.
You might be a great fit if you...
- You design from first principles and back it with analysis.
- You take end-to-end ownership, from CAD through fabrication, assembly, and test.
- You work well under real constraints: tight budgets, hard deadlines, and novel physics at once.
- You communicate clearly across disciplines.
Key responsibilities
- Design mechanical and electromechanical subsystems in CAD.
- Perform structural and thermal analysis to support design decisions.
- Specify and integrate motion hardware, actuators, and fixtures.
- Drive fabrication (machining and related methods), assembly, and test.
- Iterate designs based on test results.
- Own drawings, BOMs, and mechanical documentation.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, and process engineering for system-level integration.
- Contribute to IP development with the founding team.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 1–5 years of mechanical design experience.
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, NX, or equivalent).
- Strong grasp of GD&T and design for manufacturability.
- Hands-on prototyping and assembly experience.
- Prior experience in a hardware startup, industrial equipment, or advanced manufacturing context.
Preferred qualifications
- Thermal or structural FEA.
- Motion systems and precision hardware.
- Experience with high-temperature, high-power, or vacuum equipment.
- Interest in advanced manufacturing processes.
What we offer
- Y Combinator and NSF-backed startup.
- Stock options or equity.
- Direct collaboration with the founding team on a process with no direct commercial equivalent.
- A lean, on-site environment where your technical judgment shapes product direction.
- The opportunity to file patents and contribute to a growing IP portfolio.
- Flexible working arrangements and a culture that respects your time and autonomy.
