Energize Group in Boston, MA is seeking a Principal or Staff level individual contributor to own the mechanical and electromechanical architecture of a high-load robotic system. You will split time between hands-on build in the bays and architectural design work, shaping the strategy for the next generation platform.

You will start by deeply learning the current generation product and own a submodule while guiding architecture from day one.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical and electromechanical architecture of a complex, high load robotic system from concept through production.
• Design, fabricate, assemble, document and test mechatronic systems, working hands on in the engineering bays alongside CAD and analysis work.
• Bring together mechanical, electrical and sensing subsystems into a working, reliable product.
• Run high load structural analysis, including FEA and hand calculations, on systems generating several thousand newtons of force.
• Contribute to next generation platform architecture and strategy from day one.
• Mentor other engineers on the team as needed, without formal management responsibility.

About the Company

We are a well funded robotics company automating a process that has not fundamentally changed in decades.

Our team is roughly 90 percent engineering, spanning hardware, wheel balancing, software and engineering technicians, and we operate with a flat structure out of a single site in the Boston area.

The Role

This is a Principal or Staff level individual contributor role reporting directly into our VP of Engineering. You will split your time across CAD, hands on build and test in our engineering bays, and architectural design work, moving fluidly between the two as the product demands. You will start by learning our current generation product deeply and owning a submodule within it, while spending the majority of your time from day one shaping the strategy and architecture of our next generation platform.

This is an individual contributor position for the foreseeable future. Mentoring of more junior engineers is expected, but there are no direct reports. We are looking for someone who has taken a complex electromechanical product from concept through zero to one and on to scale, not someone coming from a purely manager track background.

What You Will Do

• Own the mechanical and electromechanical architecture of a complex, high load robotic system from concept through production
• Design, fabricate, assemble, document and test mechatronic systems, working hands on in the engineering bays alongside CAD and analysis work
• Bring together mechanical, electrical and sensing subsystems into a working, reliable product
• Run high load structural analysis, including FEA and hand calculations, on systems generating several thousand newtons of force
• Contribute to next generation platform architecture and strategy from day one
• Mentor other engineers on the team as needed, without formal management responsibility

What We Are Looking For

• Significant professional experience in robotics, automation or complex electromechanical product development, well beyond entry level
• Demonstrated experience taking a complex product from concept through zero to one and into scaled production, industrial or field deployed products preferred
• Genuine electromechanical depth: a strong understanding of how electrical and mechanical systems integrate to bring a full system to life, grounded in applied experience rather than academic fundamentals alone
• Experience with high load structural analysis, including FEA and supporting hand calculations
• Comfort working hands on with hardware in a build and test environment, not purely at a CAD workstation
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or a related field; exceptional self taught candidates will also be considered
• Strong problem solving, communication and teamwork skills

Preferred, Not Required

• Design for manufacturing experience
• Familiarity with industrial controls systems
• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
