Job summary

Ascent AeroSystems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will design, develop, and test mechanical components for rugged coaxial UAS platforms, collaborating with engineering and operations to meet design and build goals.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Mechanical Engineering, 7+ years of experience, and strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) with GD&T know-how. Experience in UAS or robotics is a plus, as is a Part 107 license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering roles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and GD&T.
  • Able to perform hand calculations for loaded structures.
  • Familiarity with configuration management of parts and assemblies.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to UAS.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Create conceptual designs and prototypes from customer requirements and specifications.
  • Create validation and verification tests and document results.
  • Formulate product roadmaps from prototype to production at scale.
  • Redesign parts for improved manufacturability (e.g., machining to injection molding).
  • Analyze structures to reduce mass and optimize performance.
  • Draft production documentation like drawings, test plans, and assembly instructions.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Troubleshoot nonconformances and implement corrective actions at scale.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet timelines and objectives.
  • Contribute to RFPs, RFIs and other contract-related work.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of products, specifications, capabilities, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in UAS technology.
  • Help resolve customer technical support issues, including field travel for demos.

About the Role

Ascent AeroSystems is currently looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role will collaborate with engineering and operations to meet design and build goals and objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components and systems, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards. The ideal candidate is a roll-up-your-sleeves, high energy, collaborative UAS enthusiast who works well on a team and individually.

  • Familiarity with configuration management of parts and assemblies.

  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
Preferred Skills
  • Previous experience and interest in UAS or other robotics systems.
  • Especially, experience with ArduPilot based systems.
  • Part 107 License
Pay range and compensation package

This position is expected to include a base salary between $130K and $150K.
