Job summary

AMETEK SFMS in Wilmington, MA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design electromechanical sensing devices for aerospace applications. You will develop new technologies, create 3D models, and produce detailed technical documentation for certification and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 7+ years designing electromechanical sensing devices in regulated industries (aerospace/defense/auto/medical).
  • Proficiency with GD&T.
  • Experience with SolidWorks 2020 or later.
  • Knowledge of aerospace components and standards is a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills; able to work with analytical tools (FEA).
  • Ability to design for severe vibration and thermal environments.
  • Experience with PLM/PDM (ARAS Innovator preferred).
  • Comfort using AI tools to improve productivity and decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Design, manufacture, test & certify electromechanical sensing devices (RTDs, thermocouples, speed sensors, cables).
  • Develop new technologies to maintain competitive advantage within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Create 3D models and specify materials and assembly methods using SolidWorks.
  • Produce technical documentation including design reports, FMEA, test procedures and test reports.
  • Perform structural, thermal, fatigue, and dimensional analyses (hand calcs and FEA).
  • Review customer and industry specs to support bids and product design.
  • Integrate design for six sigma, reliability and manufacturability into designs.

Job Description

AMETEK SFMS is looking for a highly collaborative problem-solver with a natural curiosity about mechanical and electrical devices to join us as aMechanical Engineerin our Wilmington, MA facility. This position will specialize in the development of aerospace components with a specialty in temperature sensors, speed sensors, air flow sensors, and interconnecting cables. We are seeking a self-starter with mechanical design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment who possesses excellent technical and project management capabilities. This individual will join a global, multi-site business unit that designs and manufactures highly engineered sensors and fluid management systems for aerospace applications.


Key Responsibilities


  • Position is for a success-oriented individual with demonstrated experience in the design, manufacture, test & certification of electromechanical sensing devices such as RTD’s, Thermocouples, Speed Sensors, and Cables

  • Will develop new technologies to sustain competitive advantage while working within a multidisciplined team environment.

  • Create 3D models utilizing SolidWorks, specifying materials and assembly methods.

  • Create and issue technical documentation to support new and existing product designs. This includes, but is not limited to, design reports, FMEA’s, test procedures, and test reports.

  • Perform Structural, Thermal, Fatigue, and Dimensional Analyses using both hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis methods.

  • Review customer and industry specifications in support of the bid and proposal and product design processes.

  • Must have a strong blend of technical, project, and positive customer relationship building experience.

  • Responsible for integrating design for six sigma, reliability & manufacturability into each product design while achieving customer objectives of performance and schedule.


Requirements and Consideration


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

  • 7+ years designing electromechanical sensing devices in a regulated industry, such as the aerospace, defense, automotive or medical industries.

  • Proficiency with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Knowledge and understanding of aerospace components and standards are a plus.

  • Requires exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated strong use of analytical tools, including FEA.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks version 2020 or later.

  • Expertise in designing for severe vibration and thermal environments.

  • Open to continuous change with the desire and ability to learn new skills.

  • Proven hands‑on capability in the workplace.

  • Motivated, self-starter, with a strong work ethic.

  • Able to function (often simultaneously) as an individual contributor, a team member, and a leader supporting various activities.

  • Computer skills to include Word, Excel, and SolidWorks as well as familiarity with PLM/PDM software (ARAS Innovator preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision‑making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI‑generated outputs.
