Job summary

Bird Aerosystems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop airborne mechanical assemblies, structures, and avionics packaging for projects from design reviews through manufacturing, integration, and on-site installation.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or certification as a Practical Mechanical Engineer.
• Fluent in English and Hebrew.
• Minimum five years of mechanical design experience.
• Strong SOLIDWORKS proficiency.
• Experience in aerospace/defense including AS9100 and DO-160 is advantageous.
• Vendor management and hands-on installation support are advantageous.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with configuration management or PLM/PDM tools is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design metallic, sheet-metal, machined, and composite components with attention to weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Prepare and present technical packages for PDR and CDR reviews.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with systems, stress, electrical, avionics, manufacturing, quality, test, and certification teams.
• Support prototype builds, qualification testing, aircraft integration, installation, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
• Manage engineering changes, drawing releases, configuration control, and product documentation throughout the lifecycle.
• Work with suppliers and production teams to resolve fabrication, assembly, and installation issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop concepts, detailed designs, 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications for airborne mechanical systems;
• Design metallic, sheet-metal, machined, and composite components with attention to weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability;
• Prepare and present technical packages for PDR and CDR reviews;
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with systems, stress, electrical, avionics, manufacturing, quality, test, and certification teams;
• Support prototype builds, qualification testing, aircraft integration, installation, troubleshooting, and design improvements;
• Manage engineering changes, drawing releases, configuration control, and product documentation throughout the development lifecycle; and
• Work with suppliers and production teams to resolve fabrication, assembly, and installation issues.

• Experience in the aerospace or defense sectors, including familiarity with AS9100 and DO-160 -- A Significant Advantage;
• Demonstrated experience in vendor management and hands‑on installation support -- A Significant Advantage;
• Practical knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and manufacturing processes -- A Significant Advantage;
• Experience with configuration management or PLM/PDM tools and formal engineering change processes -- An Advantage; and
• Experience supporting environmental or qualification testing, including vibration, shock, and thermal testing -- An Advantage;
