Qualifications

  • 4-8 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer; space vehicle design or MGSE preferred.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality mechanical systems and production readiness.
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with configuration control, design release lifecycle, and PLM.
  • Experience with manufacturing tolerances, fabrication methods, and assembly.
  • Excellent CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar).
  • Motivated teamwork and leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer mechanical design solutions for spacecraft flight hardware and MGSE.
  • Create designs with DFM/DFA for high-rate manufacturing.
  • Perform preliminary FEA and hand calculations to ensure feasibility.
  • Create component drawings with GD&T for affordable production.
  • Develop assembly drawings, fabrication procedures, and build instructions with the integration team.
  • Coordinate across engineering on new designs and improvements.
  • Interface with programs/customers on design needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate with test engineers to plan and execute tests and root-cause analyses.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to optimize designs for cost and lead time.
  • Mentor and lead junior engineers within the Mechanical Engineering discipline.

York Space Systems is looking for a talentedSeniorMechanical that can turn complex design requirements into an affordable-to-produce and easy-to-assemble design for high-rate production using manufacturing best practices. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and jumps at the chance to exercise their engineering skills, in addition to their CAD skills, to advancethe designand industry. Aerospace specific experience is desired, but not a requirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engineer mechanical design solutions for both spacecraft flight hardware and mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE).
  • Create designs with DFM/DFA with rate manufacturing in mind.
  • Perform preliminary FEA, higher level hand calculations, and fastener margins to help ensurea feasibledesign.
  • Createcomponentdrawings withappropriate GD&T, that can be affordably produced.
  • Develop assembly drawings, fabrication procedures, and build instructions working with the integration team.
  • Coordinate across engineering on clean sheet designs and design improvements.
  • Interface directly with programs and the end customer onhigh leveland detail level design needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate with test engineers to prepare and execute test plans as the ME responsible engineer while performing root cause analyses if/when errors arise.
  • Interface with suppliers to produce designs andoptimizedesigns for cost and lead time.
  • Support peers through checking and collaboration to ensure best practicesisimplemented on all products developed within the team.
  • Mentorand lead more junior engineers both within theMechanical Engineering discipline and without.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technicalfieldfromanaccredited university.
  • 4-8years of experience as a mechanical design engineer. Experience with space vehicle design and/or ground support equipment is preferred.
  • Strongunderstanding of what is needed for high-quality mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative and effective in team environments.
  • Moderate experience with configuration control, the lifecycle of a design release and PLM.
  • Moderate experience with materials, joints, bonding and how these choices affect designs.
  • Moderate experience with manufacturing best practices for design tolerancing, fabrication methodologies and assembly.
  • ExcellentSolidworks(or similar) CAD skills.
  • Demonstrates self-initiated work in a team environment with strong leadership skills.
  • Bonus qualification isstrongexperience in the life cycle of spacecraft (or similar) development: design, build, and test.
  • Bonus qualificationisexperience withmodel baseddefinition and 3D PDF generation and checking.
  • Bonus qualification is astrongunderstanding of the spacecraft missionregardingthermal loads, structural margin and resiliency, off-gassing, and more.
  • Bonus qualification is a strong background in the engineering of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment for the Space or Defense industry.
  • TS/SCI clearance desired.Must be ableand willingto obtain andmaintainU.S. security clearance.
  • Willingness to work full-time in our Greenwood Village, CO office; this position does not support remote or hybrid work.
