Mechanical Engineer – SolidWorks | Aerospace/Electronics Packaging

Location: Remote

Job Type: Contract, Hourly

Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizens only (due to ITAR restrictions)

Overview:

Our client is seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers or Designers for contract positions supporting high-performance electronics packaging projects within aerospace and defense environments. This role will involve hands-on design using SolidWorks , focusing on ruggedized enclosures, thermal management, and structural performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks

Perform thermal and vibration FEA to validate designs under operational stress

Design with aluminum and steel sheet metal and CNC-machined aluminum components

Support full product lifecycle from concept and prototyping to system-level assembly

Ensure designs meet ASME Y14.5 and AS9100 standards

Participate in design reviews and implement feedback to improve functionality and manufacturability

Collaborate across disciplines to align with program requirements and timelines

Preferred Skill Areas:

Aerospace industry and rugged electronics experience

Requirements capture and project planning

Rapid prototyping and iterative development

Risk analysis and test strategy development

Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration

Familiarity with program and career management principles

Qualifications:

Proven mechanical design experience, preferably in electronics packaging

Strong proficiency in SolidWorks CAD tools

Knowledge of aerospace design practices and documentation standards

FEA experience for thermal and vibration analysis is a plus
