Job summary

Titan America is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Maintenance team in Roanoke, VA. This exempt position reports to the Maintenance Manager and focuses on reliability and safe operation of plant equipment.

You will perform preventive and predictive maintenance on pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, and other mechanical systems, analyze failures, and lead continuous improvement and energy efficiency projects while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Safety-focused with ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes, rotary equipment, hydraulics/pneumatics).
• Diagnose mechanical failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring issues and implement solutions.
• Monitor and optimize equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Develop and update maintenance procedures, SOPs, and equipment history in CMMS.
• Ensure critical spares availability and support inventory optimization.
• Assist in planning shutdowns and coordinate mechanical activities.
• Support installation, commissioning, and modification of mechanical systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, cost reduction, and energy efficiency projects.
• Review drawings, P&IDs, manuals; ensure compliance with mechanical standards.
• Lead or participate in safety inspections and permit-to-work.
• Ensure contractors meet safety and quality expectations.
• Collaborate with production, electrical, instrumentation, and reliability teams.

Responsibilities

Maintenance & Reliability

Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead or participate in safety inspections, risk assessments, and permit-to-work system.
• Ensure contractors and maintenance teams fulfill company safety and quality expectations.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with production, electrical, instrumentation, and reliability teams.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians and support training when needed.
• Other duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, lubrication systems, bearings, alignment, vibration basics.
• Familiarity with reliability tools (RCA, FMEA, 5-Why).
• Ability to read/interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation.

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under pressure.
• Safety-oriented mindset with attention to detail.

Preferred But Not Required

• 2 years of maintenance experience in industrial environments (cement, mining, manufacturing, energy, or heavy industry preferred).
• Experience with maintenance planning and CMMS (SAP, Maximo, Infor, etc.).
• Experience with condition monitoring (vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound).
• Certifications (e.g., CMRP, maintenance planning, safety training).
• Experience in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, 5S, TPM).
