Position Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our DWT Research team located in Tustin, California. We are looking for someone with drive, talent, and experience in new product development. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Program Manager of our DWT Research division and be responsible for creating and validating mechanical designs to support business operations and customer activities.

Key Job Duties:

  1. Assess Technical Data Package (TDP) to formulate design, validation, and production strategy.
  2. Develop and maintain program-specific Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs).
  3. Lead change control, technical issue resolution, and program engineering deliverables for sub-components and final assemblies.
  4. Lead Design Reviews and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analyses.
  5. Coordinate, support, and/or create 2D/3D designs in SolidWorks to package sub-components into the overall system assemblies, supporting internal production and outsourcing activities.
  6. Develop and execute Design Verification Plan (DVP), including reviewing government validation requirements, creating test procedures, planning test equipment calibration and fixtures, performing internal engineering testing, and writing formal test reports as needed. Maintain and release final testing reports (DVP&R).
  7. Support component and assembly builds from initial prototype through full production launch.
  8. Track engineering issues to support regularly occurring open concerns/issues reviews.
  9. Provide summary snapshots of program imperatives (part timing, part maturity, release status, validation status, etc.).

Experience/Skills Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or defense industries.
  • Experience launching new models/products through certification and into production.
  • Advanced and recent hands-on CAD knowledge; SolidWorks strongly preferred.
  • Experience in engineering risk management tools such as DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Strong foundation of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, including test setup, calibration, writing test procedures, and reports.
  • Experience designing electrical content like wiring harnesses and PCBA is strongly desired.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for effective interfacing with other departments and professionals.
  • Technical background with understanding of military product developments, including military standards and specifications (MIL, etc.), and familiarity with DoD technical review processes.
  • Ability to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in SolidWorks is strongly desired.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain U.S. Security Clearance.

Education Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required; an advanced technical degree is preferred.
