Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an experienced aerospace engineer to design FAA-compliant repair solutions for critical aircraft components. You will analyze failures, perform FEA-based assessments, and support DER activities to ensure regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction.

You will lead engineering projects from planning through execution, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and produce technical reports that drive continuous improvement in repair capabilities and safety standards.

Qualifications

• BSME or higher from an accredited university.
• Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace, aviation, defense, manufacturing, or related fields.
• Experience supporting FAA certification activities or aerospace component repairs preferred.
• Experience with engineering analysis tools, including FEA.

In this role, you'll collaborate with customers, technicians, and engineering teams to evaluate repair opportunities, develop FAA repair solutions, support certification activities, and drive projects from concept through implementation. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse aerospace components, build technical expertise, and make meaningful contributions within an FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment.

What You’ll Do

Engineering & Technical Leadership

• Develop, evaluate, and implement FAA-compliant repair solutions for aerospace components.

• Analyze component failures and determine technically feasible repair strategies.

• Perform engineering assessments utilizing analytical tools, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

• Support Designated Engineering Representative (DER) repair development activities.

• Review designs and repairs for compliance with engineering principles, FAA regulations, customer requirements, and industry standards.

• Investigate and resolve technical and production challenges to support operational success.

Project Management & Customer Support

• Lead engineering projects from planning through execution.

• Define project scope, milestones, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

• Coordinate cross-functional activities involving engineering, operations, quality, and customers.

• Build strong customer relationships by providing technical expertise and responsive support.

• Prepare technical reports, project updates, and engineering documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Team Collaboration

• Contribute to process improvements that enhance repair capabilities, efficiency, and quality.

• Support a culture of innovation, safety, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with team members across engineering, quality, and production to achieve business objectives.

What We’re Looking For:

Required Education

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or higher from an accredited university.

Preferred Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace, aviation, defense, manufacturing, or related fields.

• Experience supporting FAA certification activities or aerospace component repairs preferred.

• Experience with engineering analysis tools, including FEA.

Work Environment:

• Primarily shop and office-based within an FAA Part 145 Repair Station environment.

• Exposure to manufacturing and repair operations.

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and safety-toe footwear, is required in designated areas.

• Occasional exposure to temperature variations when moving between facilities or during shipping and receiving activities.

Physical Requirements:
