MicroRefrigeration Inc. is building next-generation datacenter cooling AI infrastructure solutions,
including proprietary compressed-refrigerant cooling technology that delivers superior efficiency
and density versus traditional direct liquid cooling systems.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong design fundamentals, expert SolidWorks skills, and
practical experience with capital-equipment product release processes. This is a hands-on design
and build role. You will own mechanical design from concept through detailed design, drawings, BOM
creation, prototype fabrication support, and formal product release.
We are looking for a builder who is comfortable in a startup environment, moves quickly with
limited process overhead, and takes ownership of getting hardware designed, sourced, built, and
released.
No politics, just be a good engineer!
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & SolidWorks
- Create high-quality 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks
- Develop mechanical designs for refrigeration modules, cold plates, manifolds, server rack integration, heater simulation assemblies, and supporting capital equipment.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles; produce drawings suitable for both prototype fabrication and production release.
- Manage design data in PDM/PLM systems; maintain revision control, part numbering, and release status.
Product Development & Release Process
- Own mechanical design deliverables through a formal Product Development Process (PDP) / phase-gate process for capital equipment.
- Execute design reviews, design freeze, ECO/ECN processes, and transition from Engineering BOM to Production BOM.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturing, cost, reliability, and scalability requirements for volume production.
- Document design decisions, specifications, and as-built records that support final product release.
Hands-on Build, Fabrication & Sourcing
- Support prototype builds in the Scottsdale facility — comfortable working with hands, measuring, fitting, and debugging hardware.
- Source and order components and materials (McMaster-Carr fluency expected; also work with other
- Create and maintain accurate BOMs; coordinate with technicians and suppliers for fabrication and
- Iterate designs rapidly based on build feedback, test results, and manufacturing input.
- Contribute to mechanical design of vapor-compression cooling systems, including compressor modules, condensers, cold plates, and interconnecting plumbing.
- Collaborate with thermal, electrical, and controls engineers to deliver a complete, releasable product.
Qualifications
- MSME, BSME, BSMET with ~5 years of mechanical design experience in capital equipment, industrial machinery, HVAC/refrigeration equipment, or related hardware products.
- Expert-level SolidWorks skills — complex assemblies, drawings, configurations, and PDM workflows. Ability to produce production-ready documentation is required.
- Demonstrated understanding of capital equipment product release processes, Product Development Process (PDP), stage-gate or phase-gate methodologies, ECO/ECN, and design freeze practices.
- Hands-on experience with PDM and/or PLM systems for design data management and release.
- Comfortable building and fabricating equipment; able to work in a shop environment, support prototype assembly, and debug mechanical issues.
- Practical experience ordering and specifying parts from McMaster-Carr and other industrial
- Refrigeration or HVAC mechanical design experience is strongly desired (vapor-compression systems, cold plates, manifolds, condensers, or related components).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Startup or fast-paced product development environment experience preferred; ability to wear multiple hats and deliver results with limited resources.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to document designs clearly for manufacturing and cross-functional teams.
What We Offer
- Significant equity in a high-upside AI infrastructure venture.
- Opportunity to shape early engineering practices, product release methodology, and design standards.
- Relocation support and the chance to work on groundbreaking cooling technology for AI infrastructure.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
If you are a mechanical engineer with strong SolidWorks skills, real capital-equipment product release experience, and a willingness to design, source, and help build hardware in a fast-moving environment, we want to hear from you.
