Qualifications

• Requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• Background in heavy industry, cranes, or material handling is preferred.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks/CREO/AutoCAD) and MS Office.
• Strong understanding of engineering analysis, including FEA, welding design, and drafting standards.
• Familiarity with OSHA, ASME CMAA AWS NEC or equivalent standards.

Responsibilities

• Create and refine designs for lifting equipment, material handling systems, and heavy machinery.
• Use CAD tools to generate 2D layouts and 3D models; perform structural analysis with FEA.
• Select mechanical components like drive trains, gearboxes, and weldments.
• Perform on-site evaluations and assessments at client locations to define scopes.
• Ensure tolerances and finishes meet manufacturing requirements in drawings.
• Coordinate with internal teams and clients to deliver projects on schedule.

Role Overview

A well-established manufacturing organization located in Salem, Ohio, is currently seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer. This position offers a unique opportunity to integrate office-based design work with hands-on field execution, focusing on the engineering, repair, and modification of heavy industrial material handling and lifting systems.

Core Responsibilities

• Create and refine designs for specialized lifting equipment, material handling systems, and heavy industrial machinery.
• Utilize advanced CAD platforms to generate precise 2D layouts and 3D models, incorporating FEA for structural stress analysis.
• Select and design essential mechanical components, such as high-torque drive trains, gearboxes, and intricate structural weldments.
• Conduct on-site equipment evaluations and diagnostic assessments at domestic client locations to help define project scopes and ensure operational success.
• Maintain high standards for machine tolerances and finishes on assembly drawings to ensure all engineering documentation meets rigorous manufacturing requirements.
• Coordinate effectively with internal engineering teams and external clients to ensure project deliverables are met according to schedule and technical specifications.

Professional Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Background in heavy industry, specifically involving industrial cranes, machinery design, or material handling, with field experience in agricultural or industrial environments being a plus.
• Demonstrated proficiency in modern CAD software such as SolidWorks, CREO, or AutoCAD, alongside standard Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong technical grasp of engineering analysis, FEA software, welding design, and best practices for drafting and detailing.
• Familiarity with industry-specific regulatory standards, including OSHA, ASME, CMAA, AIST, AWS, and NEC compliance.
• Physical ability to perform shop floor or field inspections and the flexibility to travel to customer sites as required.
