Job summary

Hireproo LLC is seeking aJunior Mechanical Engineer to support a U.S. Navy Surface Ships Program in Pittsfield, MA. You will gain hands-on experience across mechanical design, testing, manufacturing, and system integration for mission-critical naval systems.

You will design and develop mechanical components, create 3D CAD models and drawings, and work with drafting teams to update designs. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential, as you apply standards and analyze using ANSYS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM with 2+ years of experience, or
  • Master's degree with at least 6 months of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and shipboard systems.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Work with drafting teams and provide drawing markups and design updates.
  • Support prototype development, testing, manufacturing, and system integration.
  • Assist with equipment installation and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical design and engineering issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and other engineering disciplines.
  • Apply engineering standards and best practices to mechanical designs.
  • Support analysis and evaluation using tools such as ANSYS.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve engineering processes.

Job description

We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support a major U.S. Navy Surface Ships Program in Pittsfield, MA. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career mechanical engineer to work on mission‑critical naval systems and gain hands‑on experience across mechanical design, testing, manufacturing, and system integration.

The engineer will work closely with experienced engineers and cross‑functional teams to design and develop mechanical components and assemblies that support U.S. Navy surface combatants and other naval vessels.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and shipboard systems.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
  • Work with drafting teams and provide drawing markups and design updates.
  • Support prototype development, testing, manufacturing, and system integration.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR
  • Master's degree with at least 6 months of relevant experience.
  • Experience with CAD/3D mechanical modeling and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with Creo is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, and fabrication processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance; active Secret clearance is preferred.
  • Must be willing to work fully onsite in Pittsfield, MA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ANSYS / FEA experience.
  • Shock and vibration analysis experience.
  • Manufacturing or manufacturing‑support experience.
  • Prototype development and testing.
  • Mechanical systems integration.
  • Aerospace, defense, naval, or shipboard engineering experience.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
