Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Analyst – MSIP® Team NuVision Engineering

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Company: NuVision Engineering, Inc.
Department: Engineering

Position Overview:

NuVision Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Analyst to join our Mechanical Stress Improvement Process (MSIP®) team in Pittsburgh. This team is responsible for delivering high-quality finite element analysis (FEA) and engineering support for the deployment of MSIP®—a patented process used to mitigate stress corrosion cracking in reactor vessel nozzles, piping, and components in boiling water reactors (BWRs) and pressurized water reactors (PWRs).

This role is ideal for a technically driven engineer who is comfortable combining analytical tools and field awareness to deliver practical, safety-focused solutions for the nuclear power industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) of nonlinear systems including reactor vessel welds, piping, and custom components or tooling using ANSYS Mechanical (APDL and Workbench).
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation to communicate modeling assumptions, analysis results, and MSIP® process parameters.
  • Collaborate closely with internal engineering and field teams to improve MSIP® equipment and processes.
  • Support additional engineering analysis efforts such as mechanical evaluations, thermal assessments, and structural integrity reviews as needed.
  • Participate in field activities, including domestic and international travel to customer sites to conduct meetings, provide technical oversight, and support plant outages.
  • Provide on-call support and local presence during project execution and outage windows, as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in ANSYS Mechanical (APDL and Workbench).
  • Experience with Mathcad or similar mathematical computing tools.
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, particularly Sections III and XI.
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to U.S. and international nuclear power plants.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally in support of field projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of heat transfer and thermal analysis principles.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and NQA-1.
  • Hands-on technical aptitude to support or troubleshoot MSIP® equipment.
  • Field experience in a regulated or high-reliability industry (nuclear, aerospace, defense, etc.).
  • Flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing priorities or site conditions.

Why Join NuVision Engineering?
