  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update mechanical designs and engineering drawings using Creo.
  • Support conceptual mechanical design and component placement within power electronics enclosures.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Perform mechanical fit-up and assembly validation to ensure proper component integration.
  • Support design release and engineering drawing checking activities.
  • Validate mechanical parts and assemblies through fit-up, assembly, vibration, and thermal testing.
  • Research and evaluate mechanical designs, specifications, and proposed changes for feasibility.
  • Assist with diagnosing mechanical equipment or component issues and recommend design improvements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and power electronics engineers on product development and validation.
  • Work with suppliers regarding manufacturing considerations and mechanical design requirements.
  • Support activities on production floors and testing sites as needed, using required PPE.
  • Apply mechanical design fundamentals, material properties, and dimensional tolerancing principles to engineering work.

Job description

Duration: 12 months, with potential for extension

Location: Chilcothe, IL

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM or 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Work Arrangement: Fully onsite

Travel: 0–25% domestic, primarily to testing/supplier locations

Interview: One round; onsite preferred, but virtual may be considered for non-local candidates

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer 3 to support the design, validation, and ongoing development of power electronic systems and components. This role will focus heavily on mechanical design updates, Creo modeling, engineering drawing interpretation, component placement within power electronics enclosures, and mechanical fit-up/assembly. The engineer will collaborate closely with mechanical and power electronics engineers and support design validation activities including fit-up, assembly, vibration, and thermal testing. Experience with power electronics, heat transfer/thermal behavior, and metallic material properties is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foundational understanding of dimensional tolerancing/GD&T.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a technical engineering team.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with power electronics or power electronic systems.
  • Understanding of heat transfer, thermal management, and how mechanical systems behave under thermal conditions.
  • Knowledge of metallic material properties.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems.
  • Experience with mechanical validation, including vibration and thermal testing.
  • Prior experience supporting large-scale industrial or heavy-equipment products.
  • Previous experience with the hiring organization's engineering systems is preferred.
