Job summary

Rocketdyne Space Electronics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Mason, OH to perform design, analysis and testing of ruggedized opto-mechanical and electro-optical systems. You will follow projects from concept through hardware integration and testing, interfacing with designers, systems engineers, and customers.

The role requires experience with FEA tools and CAD packages (Solidworks, PTC Creo, MathCAD, Matlab) and familiarity with GD&T.

Qualifications

• Requires broad theoretical job knowledge.
• Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering Degree is required.
• In lieu of a degree, minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
• Familiarity with FEA tools (FEMAP/NX Nastran and/or ANSYS are preferred).
• Familiarity with computer design tools (Solidworks, PTC Creo, MathCAD, Matlab) is preferred.
• Familiarity with GD&T and drawing standards

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical analyses of components and subsystems using classical and Finite Element methods.
• Participate in cross-disciplinary Engineering design teams for ruggedized opto-mechanical and electro-optical systems.
• Review schedules, specifications, and contract documentation to plan multi-year development efforts.
• Create working designs, computer models, layouts and drawings using MCAD/MCAE tools.
• Present or review in design reviews to demonstrate conformance to requirements and specifications.
• Review engineering documentation including product specifications, drawings, and test plans.
• Assist Purchasing with procurement, vendor certification and nonconformance disposition.
• Support assembly, integration and test of product hardware.
• Adhere to Quality Systems Manual and standard work instructions.
• Adhere to budget and schedule commitments.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to obtain security clearance as needed.

Mechanical Engineers at the Rocketdyne Space Electronics division are responsible for a wide range of assignments, including design, analysis, and test of opto-mechanical, and electro-optical systems. These systems have demanding functional and performance requirements and must operate in extremely challenging environments. Mechanical Engineers will follow the product from conceptualization through hardware integration and testing, and will interface with Designers, Systems Engineers, as well as other discipline engineers, Program Managers and customer counterparts. Duties may include CAD design, detailed finite element analysis, vendor and integration support, as well as hardware characterization testing.

Essential Functions:

• Perform mechanical analyses of components and subsystems employing both classical and Finite Element methods.
• Participate in multiple cross-disciplinary Engineering design teams. Teams will be tasked with developing various types of ruggedized opto-mechanical and electro-optical systems and technologies.
• Familiarize with review schedules, specifications, process standards, and other contract documentation in order to plan the successful execution of multi-year development efforts.
• Contribute to the conceptualization and development of working designs, computer models, layouts and drawings using MCAD/MCAE tools.
• Participate (as a presenter and/or reviewer) in internal and customer design reviews intended to demonstrate design conformance to all derived requirements and customer specifications.
• Review engineering documentation, including product specifications, drawings, assembly procedures, and test plans/procedures.
• Assist the Purchasing Dept. with procurement of product hardware including vendor certification, vendor oversight, product source inspection, and nonconformance disposition, as required.
• Support the assembly, integration and test of the product or prototype hardware.
• Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Systems Manual, applicable Standard Work Instructions and other standards invoked internally or contractually.
• Adhere to budget and schedule commitments.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to obtain security clearance as needed. Not required upon entry.
