Rocketdyne Space Electronics division in Mason, OH is seeking a PWB Layout Engineer to design and document multilayer boards for RF, analog, digital, and mixed-signal space-grade systems.

You will translate schematics into producible layouts, ensure IPC Class 3 compliance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to meet stringent space and military requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 2+ years of related experience, or a graduate degree.
  • Background in space or military avionics is desired.
  • Experience with military standards and high-reliability components is preferred.
  • Experience with Siemens Xpedition design suite is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Design and layout printed wiring boards for RF, analog, digital, and mixed-signal applications in support of high-reliability and space-based electronic systems.
  • Perform component placement and routing for multilayer rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board designs in accordance with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Translate schematic and engineering design intent into producible PWB layouts and associated documentation.
  • Generate and maintain fabrication, assembly, and release documentation for new and updated board designs.
  • Apply IPC Class 3 requirements and other applicable customer, military, aerospace, and internal standards to PWB designs.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams throughout the design process.
  • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback from engineering stakeholders.
  • Work with fabrication and assembly suppliers to address manufacturability issues and resolve design-related questions.
  • Support library maintenance activities including creation and revision of part symbols, land patterns, and related CAD data.
  • Incorporate engineering changes into existing designs while maintaining documentation accuracy and configuration control.
  • Perform design checks to ensure layout accuracy, completeness, compliance, and producibility.
  • Knowledge of RF, analog, digital, and mixed-signal PWB layout practices.
  • Knowledge of multilayer rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board design.
  • Familiarity with IPC Class 3 requirements and high-reliability electronics design practices.
  • Understanding of design considerations for space, aerospace, defense, or similarly demanding applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, design requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Understanding of fabrication and assembly processes and design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Familiarity with controlled impedance, grounding, shielding, spacing, isolation, and signal integrity considerations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering disciplines and with external suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with PWB CAD tools and related documentation processes. Preferred

The PWB Layout Engineer performs printed wiring board layout and documentation activities for RF, analog, digital, and mixed-signal designs used in high-reliability space and defense applications.
