Job summary

The KYO Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support Thermo Fisher Scientific's Laboratory Equipment Division in Marietta, Ohio. This role focuses on the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems used in ultra-low temperature freezers and laboratory cold-storage equipment.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on mechanical design experience and a strong background in product development, testing, CAD, and root-cause analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Systems, Chemical Engineering or Physics or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical systems development experience.
• Experience with mechanical design, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience using CAD tools; SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience with structural modeling, simulation, or FEA.
• Experience analyzing empirical test data.
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for cold-storage and ultra-low temperature products
• Develop system, subsystem, and component performance specifications
• Create and execute engineering test plans
• Perform structural analysis and simulation using CAD/CAE tools
• Analyze test data and use results to improve product performance
• Support Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly initiatives
• Collaborate with refrigeration, electrical, controls, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and product teams
• Support verification and validation activities
• Maintain requirements traceability and engineering documentation
• Participate in Lean/PPI and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support regulatory and product compliance requirements, including UL, IEC, FDA, CE, CSA, and Energy Star
• Travel up to 10% as needed

Preferred Experience

• Cold-storage, HVAC/R, refrigeration, or ultra-low temperature products


• Sheet metal, engineered plastics, and foam systems


• Data acquisition and automated testing


• Lean, PPI, or continuous improvement methodologies

Military engineering and technical experience is encouraged to apply when equivalent to the listed requirements.
