Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, engineer, and support baggage handling equipment including conveyors, sortation lines, carousels, and related machinery.

You will analyze feasibility, performance, and cost impacts of new concepts, collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, and operations to ensure smooth integration with airport systems, and perform calculations to validate reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Hands-on experience in mechanical system design, baggage handling, material handling, or industrial automation.
• Proficiency with CAD and design tools (Revit, AutoCAD) and mechanical analysis or simulation software.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing methods, and component selection.
• Working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ISO codes in transportation or aviation environments.

• Design, engineer, and support mechanical systems for baggage handling equipment such as conveyor lines, sortation systems, carousels, and related machinery.
• Analyze design feasibility, performance, and cost impacts for new system concepts and modifications to existing equipment.
• Partner with electrical engineers, project managers, and operations teams to ensure mechanical designs integrate smoothly with broader airport systems.
• Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate system performance, reliability, and safety.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and installation or maintenance guidelines.
• Evaluate existing baggage handling equipment and recommend design improvements or performance optimizations.
• Assist with the selection and qualification of mechanical components and vendors, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues in active baggage handling systems and support root-cause analysis alongside maintenance teams.
• Stay current on on industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices within mechanical and material handling engineering.
