Job summary

York Space Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to translate complex spacecraft design requirements into affordable, producible hardware for high-rate production. Aerospace experience is a plus but not required.

You will perform DFMA, basic FEA, create GD&T drawings, and collaborate across engineering and test teams, with opportunities to influence design, manufacturing, and supplier interfaces. This is a full-time on-site role in Greenwood Village, CO.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited university.
  • 0-2 years of mechanical design experience; internship in space vehicle design or MGSE preferred.
  • Moderate understanding of what is needed for high-quality mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative and effective in team environments.
  • Experience with configuration control, the lifecycle of a design release and PLM.
  • Experience with materials, joints, bonding and how these choices affect designs.
  • Experience with manufacturing best practices for design tolerancing, fabrication methodologies and assembly.
  • Willingness to work full-time in Greenwood Village, CO; this position does not support remote or hybrid work.

  • Engineer mechanical design solutions for spacecraft flight hardware and mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE).
  • Create designs with DFM/DFA with rate manufacturing in mind.
  • Perform preliminary FEA, higher level hand calculations, and fastener margins to help ensurea feasibledesign.
  • Createcomponentdrawings withappropriate GD&T, that can be affordably produced.
  • Develop assembly drawings, fabrication procedures, and build instructions working with the integration team.
  • Coordinate across engineering on clean sheet designs and design improvements.
  • Interface directly with programs and the end customer onhigh leveland detail level design needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate with test engineers to prepare and execute test plans as the ME responsible engineer while performing root cause analyses if/when errors arise.
  • Interface with suppliers to produce designs andoptimizedesigns for cost and lead time.
  • Support peers through checking and collaboration to ensure best practices is implemented on all products developed within the team.

York Space Systems is looking for a talented Mechanical that can turn complex design requirements into an affordable-to-produce and easy-to-assemble design for high-rate production using manufacturing best practices. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and jumps at the chance to exercise their engineering skills, in addition to their CAD skills, to advance the design and industry. Aerospace specific experience is desired, but not a requirement.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical fieldfromanaccredited university.
  • 0-2years of experience as a mechanical design engineerisrequired. Aninternship experience with space vehicle design and/or ground support equipment is preferred.

  • Bonus qualification is any experience in the life cycle of spacecraft (or similar) development: design, build, and test.
  • Bonus qualification is experience withmodel baseddefinition and 3D PDF generation and checking.
  • Bonus qualification is an understanding of the spacecraft missionregardingthermal loads, structural margin and resiliency, off-gassing, and more.
  • Bonus qualification is a background in the engineering of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment for the Space or Defense industry.
  • TS/SCI clearance desired.Must be ableand willingto obtain andmaintainU.S. security clearance.
  • Willingness to work full-time in our Greenwood Village, CO office; this position does not support remote or hybrid work.
