Job summary

APPLIED Adhesives seeks a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to lead design projects, ensure product conformity to standards, and support production testing. You will create 2D/3D CAD models and assist the Engineering Manager with feasibility reviews.

This is an on-site role in Rockford, MI with travel to APPLIED facilities as needed. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, 3+ years of experience, and strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • At least 3 years of engineering experience required.
  • Advanced CAD proficiency with SolidWorks; AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic control circuits advantageous.
  • Experience with manufacturability in machining centers is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts of specialty equipment, aligning with customer specs.
  • Create surface and solid CAD models to meet design requirements.
  • Validate new designs to ensure quality and performance.
  • Execute engineering change orders and update documentation.
  • Participate in DFMEA and DFM activities to mitigate risks.
  • Review safety standards and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Travel to APPLIED facilities as required.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer who displays strong communication, interpersonal skills, and embraces a growth mindset. This position will lead design projects, ensure product conformity to internal and regulatory standards, support production personnel during new design testing and validation, and assist the Engineering Manager in specialty equipment feasibility reviews. This individual will utilize computer-aided design software to create 2D and 3D models of parts and equipment. This is an on-site role in Rockford, MI. There is no relocation for this role, if you do not live in the Grand Rapids, MI. area, you will not be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts of specialty equipment, adhering to customer specifications.
  • Create surface and solid CAD models to satisfy design requirements.
  • Work with a design team and individually on CAD projects.
  • Validate new designs, ensuring products meet or exceed quality and performance standards.
  • Execute engineering change orders.
  • Create assembly documentation and user manuals from CAD drawings.
  • Participate in DFMEA and DFM activities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on issues identified during production or customer use to improve product performance or durability.
  • Collect and analyze data on equipment performance using engineering analysis tools and techniques.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review safety standards and make changes as applicable to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and developing industry technology, equipment, and applications; apply this knowledge to recommend product enhancements.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to travel to APPLIED facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • At least 3 years of engineering experience is required.
  • Excellent engineering/mechanical aptitude required.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills required.
  • Knowledge of component design for manufacturability in machining centers required.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD and AutoCAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Prior experience with Programmable Logic Controllers preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic control circuits preferred.
  • Familiarity with fluids calculations preferred.
