Job summary

HS Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Level 2. The role involves designing manufacturable components, performing calculations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals.

The candidate should have a HS diploma with preferred Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, SolidWorks expertise, and strong communication abilities. This is an on-site, hands-on engineering position in Grand Rapids.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics or similar engineering track.
  • Intermediate proficiency in SolidWorks design software.
  • Intermediate proficiency in small machine design.
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have intermediate knowledge in advanced CAD techniques.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of metals and varied materials.

  • Manage time efficiently and continually improve personal work ethic.
  • Practice and encourage safety-conscious build processes.
  • Work cooperatively and jointly within a team to provide quality products.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and team members.
  • Work with cross-functional team to complete projects on time while meeting planned budget.
  • Communicate with team members, management, and customers regarding job progress and identify potential issues.
  • Understand machine design theory and make accurate calculations.
  • Practice and encourage safety-conscious design processes.
  • Assist Design team with detailing and project work as needed.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers on the team.
  • Provide designs that are manufacturable, accurate, meet project scope, and will work with departments in the plant to ensure work conveys correct information and is error free.
  • Develop bills of material.
  • Use SolidWorks software to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, images, & other forms of communication.
  • Work closely with Design Manager & Engineers to ensure a coordinated design.
  • Draft engineering notes, specifications, rough sketches and formalizes them into working drawings.
  • Utilize technical manuals to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable standards and codes.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or required.
