Job summary

Quest Global seeks a Mechanical Engineer in Erie, PA to support Locomotive Truck (Bogie) subsystem development and ensure design compliance with subsystem and system level requirements.

The role involves designing truck components, leading CAD work, conducting trade-offs, and coordinating interfaces with other subsystems while adhering to customer and regulatory specs. Proficiency in MSC ADAMS, VI-Rail, ANSYS and Hyperworks is essential for simulations and validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering with relevant design experience.
  • Experience in heavy fabrication components engineering and joints.
  • Experience guiding CAD teams to develop 3-D models and packaging concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and cross-functional liaison.
  • Proficiency with MSC ADAMS, VI-Rail, ANSYS or Hyperworks for simulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and development of Truck subsystem for locomotives following robust processes.
  • Capture requirements, perform trade-offs, identify risks, and ensure interface alignment.
  • Design locomotive Truck components for various project types (NPI, service).
  • Ensure on-time delivery by guiding cross-functional teams and proper documentation.

Mechanical Engineer will play the key role of supporting Locomotive Truck (Bogie) sub system development and ensure design complies with subsystem / System level requirements.

What You Will Do
  • Perform the design and development of Truck subsystem and its components for locomotives following robust Engineering Process.
  • Capture and consolidate all requirements, develop & finalize concepts with Trade-off analysis, identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans, coordinate the Truck component interface with other subsystems and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory specifications.
  • Design of locomotive Truck components covering various types of projects like NPI, requisition, productivity, service productivity & reliability etc.
  • Must complete projects by adhering to customer processes and guide cross functional teams to support assigned projects; meeting business standards and program / product requirements.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated and leverage it for training/ leaning and effort optimization.
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelors /master’s degree in mechanical engineering with minimum 1 year of design experience in Locomotive truck/ automotive suspension & steering/ automotive chassis / heavy fabrication engineering area.
  • Should have engineering experience on heavy fabrication components engineering, welded & bolted joints, strain gauging, and etc.
  • Technical understanding and capabilities in component design and ability to lead component design / selection like spring, damper, rubber bushings, elastomeric pads etc.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal Skills to interface effectively with cross functional teams. Should be able to resolve inter sub-system issues through specific actions.
  • Experience of guiding CAD team to develop 3-D models and packaging concepts & drawing needs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Characteristics
  • Master degree in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace etc
  • Good understanding of rail standards such as AAR, EN, RGS, UIC, and APTA standards etc.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes including fabrication, casting, forging and mechanical assembly procedures and component validation
  • Experience performing dynamic simulations (from model build, model simulation to results interpretation) on Car/ Truck/ Bus/ Locomotive using MSC ADAMS or VI-Rail Software to evaluate road/track/rail performance parameters.
  • Experience performing finite element analysis with hyperworks, ANSYS classic tools
Work Requirements

This role is considered an on-site position located in Erie, PA

  • You must be able to commute to and from the location with your own transportation arrangements to meet the required working hours.
  • Shop floor environment, which may include but not limited to extensive walking, and ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
