Job description

Who Are We:

At Voltify, we are building the next generation of rail - battery locomotives that fast charge autonomously and dynamically through a dedicated self-sustained microgrid network.

We are bringing back the power to the industry and eliminating the dependency on fossil fuels.

Lowering the rail industry's main expense - energy - by more than 20%.

This is over $3B yearly just in North America.

We are already working with some of the largest global rail companies with over $50M in contingent orders.

We have raised over $30M from top tier funds and strategics and are rapidly growing.

Our founding team has a proven track record in building billion $ public companies

About The Role:

We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to support our subsystems, structures, and rebuild teams at the Huntington and Jacksonville locomotive rebuild shops. This role reports to Design Engineering in Cerritos while working remotely in our Jacksonville, FL location.

You will act as the critical link between design engineering and the shop floor, helping to translate drawings and specs into buildable, repeatable rebuild and retrofit work. You'll spend time both at a CAD station and on the shop floor measuring, redlining, and troubleshooting real hardware.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the engineering liaison between Cerritos-based design teams and the subsystems, structures, and rebuild teams at the Huntington and Jacksonville rebuild shops, translating designs into shop-floor execution
  • Create and maintain SolidWorks models, drawings, and documentation for sheet metal structures, brackets, and subassemblies used in locomotive rebuild and retrofit work
  • Apply sheet metal fabrication techniques common to rail, marine, and heavy-duty off-highway equipment to guide fabrication, fit-up, and repair of structural components
  • Read, interpret, and redline mechanical and electrical schematics, flagging design conflicts or field deviations back to design engineering
  • Troubleshoot and retrofit pneumatic and coolant plumbing systems on rail, marine, or off-road platforms, diagnosing leaks, pressure issues, and component failures
  • Support integration, configuration, and troubleshooting of vehicle networking, communication, and control systems using laptops and diagnostic tools
  • Perform onsite measurement and documentation of core vehicle components to support reverse-engineering, fit checks, and design validation
  • Author and maintain manufacturing work instructions, routing sheets, and SOPs to guide technicians through mechanical and electrical rebuild tasks
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering on DFM/DFA reviews, ensuring rebuild and retrofit parts are optimized for manufacturability and cost
  • Specify and coordinate sourcing of tooling, fixtures, and equipment needed to support rebuild-shop manufacturing and sub-assembly work
  • Lead root-cause investigations into production bottlenecks, component failures, or quality issues, and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Qualification:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks modeling and documentation
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication for rail, marine, or heavy-duty off-highway equipment
  • Ability to read and redline mechanical and electrical schematics
  • Experience troubleshooting pneumatic and coolant plumbing systems
  • Comfortable working independently and traveling regularly between the Jacksonville and Huntington rebuild shops
  • Willing to be onsite in shop environments for measurement, documentation, and hands-on troubleshooting
Advantages:
  • Familiarity with locomotive schematics and rail systems
  • Experience with vehicle networking and communication protocols (CAN bus, J1939, CANopen, Modbus, Ethernet)
  • Authoring SOPs, work instructions, and routing sheets
  • Experience specifying tooling and fixtures for heavy vehicle manufacturing
  • Root-cause analysis / CAPA experience in a production environment
