Job summary

Hidden Level in Syracuse, NY is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to help accelerate product development of drone-detection and airspace technology. You will design mechanical solutions, perform analyses, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

You will work on enclosures, BOMs, and assembly instructions, with hands-on use of SolidWorks, FEA, GD&T, and manufacturing processes. Hybrid work options in Syracuse are available, with travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 0–5 years of professional experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling tools.

Responsibilities

• Use 3D solid modeling to design mechanical solutions for enclosures and fixtures.
• Perform structural, thermal, and failure analyses to meet requirements.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, and assembly.
• Create and maintain cable assemblies and peripheral interfaces.
• Work with various materials and fabrication methods including plastics, metals, 3D printing, machining.
• Coordinate with 3rd-party fabrication houses through delivery.
• Verify design and support field testing; author assembly instructions and drawings.
• Aid in Bills of Materials management and production artifacts.
• Review hardware parts for obsolescence and replacements.

Position Overview:

Hidden Level is transforming airspace safety with innovative, scalable drone detection and airspace technology. We provide real-time, actionable data to enhance security across various environments. As we expand, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team to help us accelerate our product development initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Use 3D solid modeling to design mechanical solutions for tightly controlled enclosures and fixtures
• Assist with or perform structural, thermal, and other failure analyses to meet environmental and structural requirements
• Optimize designs for feasibility, manufacturability, cost, thermal performance, strength-weight efficiency, and ease of assembly
• Create and maintain cable assemblies/harnesses and other peripheral interface designs
• Solve design challenges using a variety of materials and fabrication methods including plastics, composites, metals, 3D-printing, machining, etc.
• Define, maintain, and communicate requirements to 3rd-party fabrication houses and work closely with them through component and product delivery
• Perform design verification and integration of new components and support field testing
• Author assembly instructions and drawings in support of in-house production
• Aid with the management of bills of material (BOM) and other production and fabrication artifacts
• Review hardware parts for obsolescence and identify suitable replacements
• Assist with or provide information in support of project planning, execution, and oversight

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 0 - 5 years of professional experience
• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling tools
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and overcome technical challenges through teamwork and collaboration
• 10% travel

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with the design and development of hardened electronics enclosures
• Experience providing detailed mechanical design review feedback
• Proficiency with performing thermal and structural analysis, detailed tolerance studies, dimensional fits and clearances analysis, and environmental hardening
• Experience with strict configuration management and design control
• Experience with the following (or similar):
  1. Design and implementation of radar, communication, and other sensor systems
  2. SolidWorks 3D modeling software
  3. FEA simulation using ANSYS software
  4. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  5. Configuration management systems such as SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM)

This position is located in the Syracuse, NY office with the potential for hybrid arrangements.

Salary Range: The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Syracuse, NY is estimated at $84,000 to $90,000 annually.
