Job summary

Adaptec Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in the United States to design, build, and support automation systems from concept through startup. You will develop 3D models, create drawings, size components, and collaborate with PLC/robot programmers across projects.

Responsibilities include component sourcing, BOM maintenance, design reviews, and travel to customer sites. The role demands strong problem-solving, teamwork, and excellent communication; a BS in Mechanical Eng and 5–10 years

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• 5-10 years of experience in automation design
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to travel occasionally (5%) to customer sites and other company locations

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models and design layouts for industrial automation systems
• Create 2D drawings for fabrication as needed to support project schedule or complexity
• Review and approve detail drawings created by the drafting/detailing team for accuracy and completeness prior to release
• Research and source components, obtaining quotes and specifications from vendors
• Develop and maintain accurate bills of materials from drawing packages
• Perform engineering calculations to size system components per client specifications and industry standards
• Apply knowledge of design principles (Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturability, etc.)
• Evaluate project and design feasibility, including engineering analyses (classical mechanics, simulations, etc.), time studies, and cost analysis
• Assist PLC and Robot Programmers during system build, startup, and debugging
• Account for controls systems and how they interact with mechanical design
• Support installation, startup, and troubleshooting activities at customer sites
• Stay up to date with emerging automation technologies and apply where needed
• Participate in system risk assessments (safety, process risk assessment)
• Attend and contribute to internal and external design reviews
• Promote engineering solutions that align with technical and budgetary constraints
• Adhere to project schedules & manage priorities within multiple projects in various phases
• Ensure adherence to company standards and best practices
• Work closely with project managers and customers throughout project lifecycle
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated automation solutions
• Assume the role of project Technical Lead when required
• Support overall organizational growth initiatives

Description

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all aspects of system design, build, debug, and installation support. This includes mechanical design, 3D modeling, drawing package creation and approval, build support, robot and PLC programmer assistance, process development and improvement, and startup of industrial automation systems.

Key Job Responsibilities

Design & Development

Technical Proficiency

• Design Software: Autodesk Inventor (preferred); SolidWorks experience also considered; AutoCAD 2D; Autodesk Vault (product data management); HyCAD (a plus)
• General software: Microsoft Office products
• Software Applications: Encompix ERP (a plus)

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the wage range for this role is $95,000 - $115,000 hour. The rate range provided is a general guideline.
