Job summary

Parsons is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Centreville, VA to contribute to Critical Infrastructure projects. You’ll focus on HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression while coordinating with architects and engineers to integrate systems.

The role emphasizes CAD/BIM use, site surveys, and technical evaluations to ensure safety and sustainability. You should have a 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree, 5+ years of experience, and ideally an EIT or Master’s.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • EIT registration or Master’s degree are beneficial.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience with HVAC, chillers, boilers, steam, cooling water, pumps, fans, compressors, cooling towers, plumbing, fire suppression, and related building services.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in sustainable design practices and LEED certification is advantageous.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards, and processes.
  • Candidate should be capable of working in a self-directed manner with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare standard engineering deliverables such as drawings, calculations, specifications, reports for procurement and construction.
  • Perform site surveys of existing facilities for as-built documentation and rehab designs; support construction.
  • Coordinate design input with architects and engineers to integrate mechanical systems.
  • Utilize CAD and/or Building Information Modeling design software.
  • Review mechanical system drawings, specifications, and construction documents for accuracy.
  • Perform technical evaluations of mechanical equipment for performance, safety and sustainability.

Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Mechanical Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will get to use your mechanical engineer skills to focus on HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression and/or facility systems to support Critical Infrastructure projects.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Under the direction of a Senior engineer, prepares standard engineering deliverables such as drawings, calculations, specifications, reports and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.

  • Performs site surveys of existing facilities for as-built document generation, rehabilitation designs, and for construction support of new facilities. Adherence to a Zero-Incident safety goal is expected.

  • Coordinates design input and technical guidance with architects and other engineers to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into the project.

  • Utilization of CAD and/or Building Information Modeling design software is expected.

  • Reviewing and approving mechanical system drawings, specifications, and construction documents for accuracy and completeness.

  • Performing technical evaluations of mechanical equipment and systems to ensure they meet performance, safety, and sustainability goals.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration and/or Masters Degree are beneficial.

  • 5+ years of related work experience

  • In addition to the above credentials, basic understanding and/or experience in the design and specification of a wide variety of mechanical systems are preferred. Systems should include: HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, steam systems, cooling water systems, pumps, fans, compressors, cooling towers, plumbing systems, fire suppression systems, and other building services related systems.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

  • Experience in sustainable design practices and LEED certification is advantageous.

  • Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards, and processes.

  • Candidate should be capable of working in a self-directed manner with minimal oversight.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Experience in LRT, Metro, or Railway /transit design projects is beneficial.

  • Experience in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), Computer Aided Design (CAD), scheduling software, or file management software is a plus. Working knowledge of REVIT, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Trane Trace, MathCAD, and/or other software packages typically associated with engineering is beneficial.

Salary Range: $74,800.00 - $130,900.00
