Job summary

SEACOMP in Carlsbad, CA seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead product design from concept to mass production across consumer electronics, medical, and Agtech sectors. You will perform hands-on design, create 3D models and 2D drawings, specify materials, and drive DFM/DFA with supplier teams.

BS in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering and 3–7 years of hands-on, high-volume manufacturing experience are required. Proficiency in SolidWorks and strong analytical/communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • 3–7 years of hands-on mechanical engineering design experience for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proficient in mechanical engineering fundamentals as well as SolidWorks for 3D/2D.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing processes including injection molding, machining, sheet metal, and rapid prototyping.
  • Experience with tooling kick-offs.
  • Ability to create clear engineering specifications, assemblies, bills of materials, 2D drawings, and other documents based on best practices.
  • Proficient in hands-on assembly, testing, rework, and use of lab equipment.
  • Understanding of mechanical design considerations for consumer electronics.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize when handling tasks for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attitude, work ethic, and time management.
  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or Mandarin are a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on mechanical engineering design including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation.
  • Specify materials, finishes, and off-the-shelf components to meet functional requirements.
  • Participate in design, drawing, and tolerance analysis reviews.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with industry, safety, and performance standards.
  • Work with mechanical lead to assess engineering analysis and simulation needs.
  • Assess and mitigate technical risks with project teams.
  • Perform testing and debugging to ensure hardware reliability and performance.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering counterparts to solve system-level engineering challenges.
  • Update and maintain engineering documentation including product and engineering requirement documents.
  • Work closely with production factories and supplier teams on DFM/DFA, tooling kick-offs, and first article approvals.
  • Actively participate in regular project status meetings with relevant external and internal stakeholders.
  • Commission, assemble, and validate prototypes at various stages of design maturity.
  • Take ownership and accountability of engineering tasks through all stages of the Product Development lifecycle.
  • Interact with customers, sales, industrial design, engineering, production, quality, sourcing, and any other departments as needed to meet project objectives.
  • Travel to customer locations, suppliers, and production factories in service of project objectives.
  • Embrace engineering best practices, yet remain innovative, in order to deliver high-quality designs with maximum efficiency.
  • Collaborate well with local and international teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging hardware technologies and industry trends.

Job description

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the mechanical design of products from concept to mass production. Projects are primarily customer-facing, and span a wide range of industries including consumer electronics, medical device, and Agtech.

Key Responsibilities:
