Job summary

MOD42 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design systems for modular infrastructure and mission-critical facilities in Buffalo, NY. You will develop detailed HVAC and mechanical models, produce construction documents, and support project delivery across disciplines.

The ideal candidate has a BS in mechanical engineering with 6+ years of experience, strong Revit skills, knowledge of hydronics, airflow, piping, and controls, and the ability to travel as needed on project sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of mechanical engineering or design experience.
  • Proficient in Revit mechanical modeling and construction documentation.
  • Experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for facilities (commercial/industrial/modular/mission-critical).
  • Knowledge of hydronic systems, airflow, duct design, piping, heat transfer, and controls.
  • Ability to work independently and with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel based on project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed HVAC and mechanical system models using Revit.
  • Produce coordinated construction documents, fabrication drawings, equipment layouts, schedules, and installation packages.
  • Design HVAC, cooling, hydronic, piping, airflow, and thermal-management systems.
  • Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, duct sizing, pressure-drop calculations, and pump/piping calculations.
  • Select and integrate air handling units, chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, and related equipment.
  • Coordinate designs with electrical, structural, architectural, controls, manufacturing, commissioning, and field teams.
  • Review vendor drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment data.
  • Identify design conflicts, constructability concerns, and coordination issues.
  • Support fabrication, installation, startup, troubleshooting, RFIs, field changes, and commissioning.
  • Travel as needed to manufacturing facilities, project sites, and client meetings.

MOD42 is growing and seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design systems for modular infrastructure and mission-critical facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of mechanical engineering or design experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Revit mechanical modeling and construction documentation.
  • Experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, manufacturing, modular, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Working knowledge of hydronic systems, airflow, duct design, mechanical piping, heat transfer, equipment selection, and controls.
  • Ability to independently complete technical assignments while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel based on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data center or mission-critical facility experience.
  • Experience with modular design, manufacturing, or fabrication.
  • Familiarity with liquid cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, Coolant Distribution Units, chilled-water systems, and redundant cooling systems.
  • Experience with Navisworks, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, BIM 360, or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Familiarity with CFD analysis, energy modeling, startup, or commissioning.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, Professional Engineer license, or progress toward licensure.
