Job summary

GameChange Solar seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and test components for solar energy systems, creating mechanical drawings and validating performance on-site and in the lab. You will collaborate with project managers and field teams to optimize cost and reliability.

The role requires strong CAD skills, field testing ability, and a hands-on approach. Travel to various sites may be required; a valid driver's license is necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Blueprint reading proficiency.
  • CAD software proficiency (AutoCAD or SolidWorks).
  • MS Office proficiency.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • U.S. driver’s license required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design specifications and functional requirements for testing solar energy systems and their components.
  • Evaluate specifications, recommend engineering changes to meet goals.
  • Create mechanical diagrams and connection diagrams for solar structural systems using CAD.
  • This position involves outdoor/indoor work; comfortable in all weather.
  • Comply with OSHA, state and federal codes, and safety procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams during installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Develop SOPs and safety standards for installation and testing processes.
  • Create reports of testing findings and performance analyses.
  • Perform various types of testing to improve cost, producibility, and installability.
  • Assist management to allocate resources and meet deadlines.
  • Travel to other sites within driving distance as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Mechanical Engineer

GameChange Solar is one of the fastest growing, most dynamic companies in the booming solar industry. We’re searching for a seasoned Mechanical Engineer with experience working with national or international technical standards. We also welcome applicants from related industries such as automotive, high-rise steel, or bridge construction.

This role offers a unique opportunity to directly impact our fast-growing company by identifying issues, developing solutions, and designing new systems that reduce material and labor costs. You’ll create system blueprints and parts, design solar components for new and existing structures.

The ideal candidate thrives on solving complex, multi-layered problems, can recreate and troubleshoot field issues, and is skilled at developing and running tests and protocols to improve product performance. Creativity and curiosity are highly valued—this job is as fun as it is technical. You’ll be expected to build and test designs, lead collaboration between project managers and engineers, and manage the process from concept through validation, performance testing, and risk assessment. Strong math, science, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work hands-on in the field.

This position includes site visits, supports sales order execution and field projects, and reports directly to the Director of Research, Development and Innovation. We offer a solid base salary with significant bonus potential for exceptional performance.

Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Develop design specifications and functional requirements for testing of solar energy systems and their components.
  • Evaluate specifications, recommend engineering or manufacturing changes to complete solar design goals.
  • Create mechanical diagrams, connection diagrams for solar structural systems, using CAD and other software.
  • This position is both outdoor/indoor. You mustbe comfortable working in all-weather elements.
  • Comply with all OSHA, state and federal code requirements, job site and construction safety procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams during installation, i.e., start-up, testing, system commissioning, or performance monitoring.
  • Develop SOPs, quality or safety standards for solar installation implementation.
  • Create reports of findings for testing completed
  • Perform various types of technical testing and analysis to determine system components that are more cost effective, easier to produce, or easier to install.
  • Assist management to complete task assignments in a timely manner, and request resources as needed.
  • Tasks may include travel to other sites within driving distance with management or independently as needed.
  • Ability to work both as a team member or independently, and at times able to work under pressure.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Mechanical Engineer Skills & Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or another technical degree.
  • Blueprint reading proficiency.
  • Strong computer/software/networking skills (MS Office required).
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Strong integrity, commitment, and sense of urgency.
  • Construction or solar experience and trade/tool knowledge preferred.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License (clean record).
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time - Travel may be required
