Job description

Mechanical Engineer | Robotics | Austin, TX (Onsite)

Up to $150,000 + relocation support

The company

A VC backed robotics startup building rugged mobile robots for demanding real world environments. Their robots are already deployed with customers across the US, and the team is now designing its next generation platform. It's a small, engineering first team where everyone designs, builds and tests.

The role

This is a true design ownership role. You'll take mechanical systems from concept through analysis, build and testing, and own their integration into the full robot. The hardware has to perform reliably in harsh outdoor conditions, and much of it is electromechanical, so every design decision needs to be backed by solid engineering analysis.

We're looking for an engineer who designs and proves their designs, not someone who only produces CAD models and drawings.

What you'll do
  • Own the design of mechanical subsystems and assemblies end to end in SolidWorks
  • Run the analysis behind your designs yourself: structural FEA, thermal, and tolerance stack ups
  • Make and justify material and design decisions for rugged hardware
  • Prototype, build and test hardware, including field testing
  • Work closely with electrical and software engineers on electromechanical integration
  • Design for manufacture as the product scales
What you'll bring
  • A track record of owning mechanical designs from concept to working hardware
  • Hands on analysis experience using tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS
  • Solid understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Experience with rugged or mobile hardware: robotics, UGVs, ATVs, automotive, defense or aerospace
  • Comfortable in a fast moving startup with hands on building and testing
  • US citizen or green card holder (no sponsorship available)
  • Experience designing for harsh environments (heat, water, impact)
  • Exposure to taking a product from prototype to production
  • Build robots that solve real problems for real customers
  • Strong VC backing and proven traction
  • Early, high ownership role shaping the next generation platform
