Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: Projects of limited scope and complexity using a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems will be assigned. The engineer will assist more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.

Brief Description: Projects of limited scope and complexity using a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems will be assigned. The engineer will assist more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods. Work is closely managed and reviewed for accuracy and adequacy. Follows specific, outlined, and detailed directions. Provides resolution to problems that are readily identifiable with limited scope and are resolved in accordance with standard practices, procedures, applications, or routines. Problem/Task resolution timeframe: The majority of tasks typically take one to two days to resolve. Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and others in group or department to give and receive information.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: The job descriptions may not be inclusive of all assigned duties, responsibilities, etc. of the job; duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to –

  • Mechanical Engineer IV – Evolving knowledge of basic engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Mechanical Engineer III – Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Preparation of studies. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  • Mechanical Engineer II – Answers questions and gives daily guidance to project team and/or other departmental staff. Checks all technical work for accuracy. Recognizes problems quickly and seeks advice. Preparation of studies, reports, plans, cost estimates, specifications for bidding and construction, review shop drawing. May participate in preparing proposals and in presentations to clients.
  • Mechanical Engineer I – Perform complex design calculations and custom detailing. Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to junior staff. May participate in preparing proposals and in presentations to clients.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PER JOB LEVEL:

  • Mechanical Engineer IV – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education
  • Mechanical Engineer III – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; two (2) years experience
  • Mechanical Engineer II – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; four (4) years experience
  • Mechanical Engineer I – Bachelor’s Degree/Continuing Education; six (6) years experience

Compensation for this role is determined based on a variety of factors including each candidate’s relevant experience, industry background, education, and demonstrated skills.
