Job summary

SmithGroup's Boston office is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for summer 2027 to join integrated design teams and gain hands-on experience in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design.

Ideal candidates are in a Mechanical or Architectural Engineering program (sophomore status or graduate), with some experience in Revit, Trane Trace or IESVE and Microsoft Office. The role includes mentorship, site visits, and a hybrid work model with some remote work.

Qualifications

• Must be a sophomore in an accredited mechanical or architectural engineering program or have graduate standing by internship time.
• Some experience with Revit, Trane Trace and/or IESVE, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Work on integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
• Assist in the design of HVAC, plumbing and/or fire protection systems in Revit 3D modeling software.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations using Trane Trace and/or IESVE.
• Calculate pressure drop and static pressure for air and hydronic systems.
• Participate in design meetings.
• Receive mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Visit construction sites or completed project sites.
