Job summary

SSOE Group in Phoenix is seeking a Part-Time Mechanical Designer Intern to join our Tool Install division, supporting design of high-tech manufacturing facilities. You will work with designers, engineers, and project managers to develop innovative piping, ducting, and mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with CAD standards and timely delivery.

Onsite-only role with flexible hours to fit academic schedules.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; engineering degree in progress preferred.
  • Pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO or similar tools is a plus; AutoCAD experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce comprehensive technical drawings and models aligning with project requirements and client expectations.
  • Creation, refinement, and finalization of designs encompassing industrial piping, plumbing, ducting, process chemicals, and potentially other mechanical building systems.
  • Apply established design techniques, exercising judgment to adapt and modify design concepts while ensuring compliance with CAD standards for quality control.
  • Collaborate with design teams, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to address objectives and propose viable solutions to challenges.
  • Facilitate coordination among design disciplines to fulfill design package requirements.
  • Conduct field verifications and site assessments to identify, verify, resolve, and integrate solutions into design packages.

We are seeking a Part-Time Mechanical Designer Intern, to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will engage in the design process of cutting-edge industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities for some of the world's leading high-tech enterprises. As a Mechanical Designer Intern at SSOE, you will collaborate with fellow designers, engineering teams, and Senior Project Managers to develop innovative solutions for intricate and challenging designs, incorporating the latest design methodologies while ensuring adherence to specifications and timely project completion. Flexible work hours available to accommodate academic schedule. This position is an onsite role that will require you to work onsite in the North Phoenix, AZ area. Remote or hybrid work arrangements for this role are not available.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with design teams, Engineers, Project Managers, and stakeholders to address specific objectives, complex features, and propose viable solutions to unique challenges.
  • Facilitate seamless coordination among various design disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural, etc.) to fulfill design package requirements.
  • Conduct field verifications and site assessments to identify, verify, resolve, and integrate solutions into design packages, troubleshooting design issues during construction as necessary.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED is required. Pursuing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred
  • Experience with tools, such as Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO, or other similar tools is a plus. Experiencing working with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly, apply and retain knowledge learned.
  • Critical thinker with a passion for detail.
  • Strong communication skills enabling effective collaboration and clear client interaction during design reviews and RFIs.
  • Salary Range: $21 - $23 per hour.
