Job summary

SSOE Group in Phoenix is seeking a Mechanical Designer to develop mechanical systems for leading semiconductor facilities, focusing on HVAC, piping, exhaust, and process utilities. You will collaborate with engineers, PMs, and cross-disciplinary teams to produce detailed designs that support cutting-edge manufacturing operations.

This onsite role requires field verifications, load calculations, and equipment sizing to ensure environmental control and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; an Associate degree in engineering or architectural fields is a plus.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD is required; experience with Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO or similar tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with HVAC design standards and codes (ASHRAE 62.1, IMC, NFPA 90A) is expected.
• Experience with HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, pumps, exhaust, and related mechanical building systems is desirable.
• Strong communication skills for design reviews and RFIs.

Responsibilities

• Produce comprehensive technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models.
• Lead design for industrial and domestic piping, HVAC ducting, chillers, boilers, exhaust, and related systems.
• Design HVAC systems to maintain precise environmental conditions per materials and specifications.
• Apply design techniques while adhering to CAD standards for quality control.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers on load calculations, airflow balancing, and equipment sizing.
• Coordinate with design teams, Engineers, PMs, and stakeholders to meet objectives.
• Facilitate coordination among Electrical, Structural, Process/Chemical, and Architectural disciplines.
• Conduct field verifications and site assessments to verify and integrate solutions into designs.

As a Mechanical Designer at SSOE, you’ll play a key role in designing the mechanical systems that support some of the world’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities. You’ll collaborate with engineers, project managers, and cross‑disciplinary teams to develop detailed designs for HVAC, piping, exhaust, and process utility systems that enable cutting‑edge manufacturing operations. This position is an onsite role that will require you to work onsite each day and be located in the N. Phoenix, AZ area. Remote or hybrid work arrangements for this role are not available.

Responsibilities

• Produce comprehensive technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models aligning with project requirements and client expectations.
• Lead the creation, refinement, and finalization of designs encompassing industrial and domestic piping, plumbing, HVAC ducting, chillers, boilers, exhaust systems, motor control, process chemicals, fire protection, and potentially other mechanical building systems.
• Design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to maintain precise environmental conditions that include specific materials, specifications, and/or implement measures to control factors like temperature, humidity, air filtration, particle levels, etc.
• Apply established design techniques, exercising judgment to adapt and modify design concepts while ensuring compliance with company and team CAD standards for quality control.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to perform load calculations, airflow balancing, and equipment sizing to maintain precise temperature, humidity, and air quality control environments
• Collaborate closely with design teams, Engineers, Project Managers, and stakeholders to address specific objectives, complex features, and propose viable solutions to unique challenges.
• Facilitate seamless coordination among various design disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural, etc.) to fulfill design package requirements.
• Conduct field verifications and site assessments to identify, verify, resolve, and integrate solutions into design packages, troubleshooting design issues during construction as necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required. An Associate degree in engineering or architectural fields is a plus.
• Proficiency working with AutoCAD is required. Experience with other tools, such as Revit, Navisworks, PIPE-FLO, or other similar tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with HVAC design standards and codes including ASHRAE 62.1, IMC, NFPA 90A, and local building codes relevant to mechanical system design.
• Demonstrated knowledge or experience with designs that contain HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, pump hydraulics, exhaust, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, or other similar mechanical building systems.
• Strong communication skills enabling effective collaboration and clear client interaction during design reviews and RFIs.
• Salary Range: $50,000 - $100,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
