Job summary

Southland Industries seeks a skilled designer to join our building systems team in Virginia. The role involves the design and implementation of fire protection, plumbing, HVAC and other mechanical disciplines, with responsibility for calculations, drawings, specs and project coordination for large-scale projects.

• Prepare complex calculations, drawings, and technical specifications for large-scale design projects.
• Oversees the entire lifecycle of large projects, including layout development, permit procurement, field surveys, coordination, fabrication lists, RFIs, as-builts, and submissions.
• Supports change order processes by providing accurate and timely project information.
• Provides technical guidance to less experienced team members and ensures quality, documentation accuracy, and schedule compliance.
• Monitors project design budgets and collaborates across teams to support successful project execution.

• Completes calculations, drawings, and specifications related to the assigned disciplines for large projects, ensuring alignment with project standards and requirements.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required
• 5+ years of experience in construction engineering design
• Two-year certificate from college or technical school in related course work or applicable field experience preferred
• NICET Level II Certification for Fire Protection
• Knowledge of zone layout and design principles, including preparation of drawings, calculations, and material submittals.
• Good communication skills for providing project status and issues to managers and stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail, demonstrated through quality submittals, fabrication drawings, and surveys.
• Proficient knowledge of design software platforms including AutoSprink, AutoCad, NAVIS and REVIT

Pay

Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For Virginia this ranges from $99,427- $117,504 plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
