Job summary

Interface Engineering Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Designer I (MEP) in a hybrid Washington, DC schedule. The role blends in-office collaboration with remote work, reflecting our employee-owned culture and focus on high-performance design.

You will learn from discipline leaders across multiple projects, contributing to mechanical design tasks, team coordination, and client-facing deliverables while growing your career in a supportive, equity-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 0 to 2 years’ experience.
  • Ability to organize your work and perform multiple functions in a fluid, multi-deadline operations tempo.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team-orientated, collaborative environment.
  • Live within commuting distance of our Oakland office.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering/Design: Participating in the engineering and design for a wide variety of MEP building project types and sizes.
  • Teamwork: Participating as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and receiving guidance, support, task delegation, and mentorship.
  • Project Tasks: Responsible to project managers for scope, schedule, budget, and discipline coordination for assigned projects.
  • Client Management: Responsible for project task deliverables leading to client satisfaction and repeat business with assigned clients.
  • Project Financial Management: Responsible for containing project costs, working efficiently within assigned project scopes.

Key Responsibilities:

As aMechanical Design EngineerI at Interface, you will be learning the most advanced, high performance, and sustainable design techniques from discipline leaders on multiple projects. Your duties will include (but may not be limited to):

What You'll Bring:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 0 to 2 years’ experience.
  • Ability to organize your work and perform multiple functions in a fluid, multi-deadline operations tempo.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team-orientated, collaborative environment.
  • Live within commuting distance of our Oakland office.

Preferred

  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards.
  • Experience with HVAC load calculations and duct sizing.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
