We have an exciting opportunity for a temporary Mechanical Designer Drafter to join the team!

The Mechanical Designer Drafter will:

  • Support NASA Johnson Space Center's space suit design activities
  • Work in a team environment to analyze requirements from the customer and develop design solutions.
  • Design, develop, and analysis of technical products and systems.
  • Perform engineering design evaluations.
  • Produce engineering mechanical drawings conforming to ASME Y14 Standards and other applicable standards.
  • Perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis.
  • Prepare reports and present designs at various design reviews using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Support project meetings and create reports as required
  • Produce other required design documentation.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a HS Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5.
  • Must have experience of mechanical designs, technical products and systems.
  • Must have design experience using SolidWorks or PTC CREO modeling CAD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS office Products (MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)

Requisition Preferences

  • AAS degree, Certification of two (2) years training from a vocational training school or two (2) years of college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles, plus an additional four to six (4 - 6) years of relevant experience. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the progressive experience.
  • Experience with Space Suit components and designs
  • Minimum 2 years' experience using SolidWorks CAD software
  • Experience using CAD Data Management Systems
  • Familiarization with JSC Fabrication Tolerances and Practices

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
