Job summary

Spectra Tech in Oak Ridge, TN is seeking a Mechanical Designer and Technician to model, design and detail components and assemblies for cryogenic systems in R&D and for major fusion facilities. You will contribute to assembly and maintenance activities supporting the ORNL mission.

The role requires Creo proficiency, Windchill PDM, strong GD&T and weld notation on drawings, and the ability to work with engineers, physicists and technicians on complex vacuum/cryogenic projects.

Qualifications

• AS degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 10+ years in design work.
• Strong Creo (Pro/Engineer) experience and Windchill PDM proficiency.
• Proficiency in GD&T and weld notation on 2D drawings.
• Familiarity with fabrication processes and design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Design, development and improvement of fusion technology components using 3D CAD.
• Create 2D drawings for fabrication and communicate across engineering teams.
• Collaborate with senior designers, engineers and physicists on 3D components/assemblies.
• Support mechanical assembly, disassembly and maintenance of cryogenic systems.
• Apply GD&T and AWS notation consistently on engineering drawings.
• Participate in projects involving vacuum, cryogenics, high pressure and electromagnetic fields.
